@RyonWLeyshon I’ve wondered about this ‘classification’ of words into regular & irregular for a long time. I’ve seen some very regular words classified as irregular (eg ‘light’). I’d love someone to do brain scans on people familiar with the concepts of a more complex code. 🤯

Today @Naomi_Hinton1 and @louisemcmullan6 are running a #SoundsWrite course for secondary teachers. They'll be analysing the complexities students who are not secure in their phonic knowledge have to face when confronted with a page from one of their set books.

But our understanding of the code encompasses this, because, as the slide explains, spellings can represent different sounds. As you know, it’s ‘best fit’ & nuanced!
