@TamarHaspel LifeLock? Low value insurance like AFLAC? Extended warranties on just about anything. Name brands of commodity products (eg sugar). Organic where you don't eat the peel (eg bananas). Throwing away perfectly good food because it's past the "best by" date.
@realEstateTrent North Carolina, nice sized 4br house plus an EV, average about $200/mo (more in the winter, less in the summer). All electric (heat pump, heat pump water heater) except the stove and the grill.
@DThompsonDev You know what we did before Google? We had shelves of books, which provided detailed references to things like language features, and when we needed to know something we looked it up.
@funranium Greetings from North Carolina with 168 local ABC boards, spirits only from state (run by local ABC boards who can only order from the state warehouse) liquor stores (closed Sundays), and local rules on who can sell what when.
@sebastian_paul Auditors are the short-term risk to the business or the deal or whatever so they always seem to be the priority. Actual security is a byproduct of meeting audit requirements, or better yet can be sold as a critical part of GDPR or similar compliance (fines for breaches!)
@MonicaLewinsky Crowdfunding, no, way too many bad investments out there and I am not an expert. Private equity with a really good manager, yes, DM for details. Minimums are generally in the 100k range.
@nuclearkatie@subaru_usa I bought my first non-Subaru vehicle in over 20 years because their EV offering was so utterly lame. The Polestar 2 is what an electric WRX should have been.
@UrsulaV It's just a motor turning a fan, if you're looking for "adequate for now" rather than "perfect" I'd suggest getting a 2nd opinion. Preferably from somebody who goes by "Bubba" and carries duct tape.
@mipsytipsy On-prem infra with bespoke tooling! Make people wait 12 weeks for capacity when the competition buys from AWS. Make sure nothing is industry standard to maximize the pain of ramping up and ensure there are no useful external resources.
@QuinnyPig You can also defeat every DLP solution I've seen by using a camera (digital, analog, phone) to take pictures of a monitor. If the data is worth stealing it's probably worth taking a picture of.
