Small biz owner using AI for real. Trending repos in plain words + my build journey 👇

Nobody warned me that the hardest part of running salons was everything except the hair. AI took a lot of that off my plate. Here's what changed 👇 #AI

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@AndrewWarner That's big for business owners building their own tools in Claude Code between everything else. Our build time comes in bursts, usually at night.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@gregisenberg From the small business side: free software plus an agent that does the boring work, I'd take that today. The agency upsell is the part I'm less sure about now that owners like me are building our own tools.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@andyhq Doing this one this weekend. Mine is an in-house app I built with AI. The "when someone last checked its output" line is the honest one. Easy to stop checking because it worked yesterday.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

Big climber on GitHub this week: Impeccable. It gives your AI coding tool a design vocabulary (polish, bolder, quieter) and checks for that generic "AI made this" look. I build my own business apps with AI, so that one matters to me. https://t.co/sRpZSV5rQA

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@mustafaergisi This is the part that matters for busy owners. I don't have time to open apps and type prompts all day. If it surfaces the right thing when I ask out loud, that's minutes back every day. Has it guessed wrong yet?

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@thenewstack Deciding what needs my attention is the hard part. As a small business owner, the win isn't more alerts, it's fewer. If it can tell "handle it" from "ask Rob" reliably, that's the feature. Curious where it missed.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@ContentStudioio The "still asks first" part is the whole thing for me. I run a small business and I don't want an AI that acts alone. I want one that does the boring prep and taps me before anything goes out. That's real time back.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

Trending on GitHub this week: OpenDuet, a free template for an AI helper that does the work and checks with you before acting. That's the only kind I'd let near my business. Do the boring stuff, ask me first, give me my evenings back. https://t.co/UuG7FBJgA6

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@LyVietVu Smart. For a salon, asking ChatGPT for the best salon nearby is the new Google search. Checking where you show up every week for about a cent is a no-brainer.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@aryanXmahajan Small business owner here, 3 salons. This is the step most owners skip. The AI is only as good as what it knows about how you actually run things.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@andyhq Great way to put it. A yes-man supplier and a yes-man AI cost you the same way: you find out on the day. Asking it "what am I missing?" is the cheapest fix I know.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

Top repo on GitHub this week: Cloudflare's security-audit-skill.

If you've built your own tools with AI like I have, this one's worth a look. Agents hunt for security holes, and each finding gets checked independently before it hits the report.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@smbizagentuse Training manuals is a smart one. In a salon, how we do things usually lives in a few people's heads. Getting that written down is real time back.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@andyhq This is it. The best AI moments in my salons are boring ones like that. Nobody posts about them, but clients notice.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@gregisenberg From the owner side, I agree. I don't want another dashboard to check. I want the thing that answers the 9pm booking text. I'd pay for that.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

The AI wins that matter most in my salons aren't flashy.

A reply drafted while I'm at dinner. A report waiting when I wake up.

Nobody brags about those. Add them up and that's my evenings back.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@svpino Small business owners should pay attention to this one. Most of us record something and it sits for weeks because editing eats a whole day. If agents can take a raw clip all the way to posted, that's real time back in your week.

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@AndrewWarner "Give them goals" is the right frame. As an owner I'd much rather tell an assistant the outcome I want, like a clear week, than hand it a list of chores. Curious which goal has surprised you the most so far?

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@coreyganim As a small business owner, this is the part people miss. It's not one magic bot, it's a few boring routines running on a schedule. The win for me isn't money, it's my evenings back. Which one would you tell a non-tech owner to set up first?

[Robert DiLella @SmallBizAIRob]

@Pollyautomates @FlorianAure Same in salons. A stylist in the middle of a color can't grab the phone, and that caller books somewhere else. Voice that books and texts the owner is the right idea.
