Today in 1983, Air Canada Flight 143 makes an emergency landing in Gimli, MB.
The flight ran out of fuel at at altitude of 12,500 metres halfway through its flight from Montreal to Edmonton.
Called the Gimli Glider, the cause was a failure to convert from imperial to metric.
