@geerlingguy They wish it was the new M series!
No, seriously, though, those DGX machines are overpowered. Problem is, they’re overpriced, too.
That said, the CIX P1 chip is *amazing* — I picked up two machines built around it recently, the Minisforum MS-R1 & the Orange Pi 6. It is magical!
@geerlingguy Back in 2000, my wife and I went to see “Frequency” because it looked like an amateur radio-based thriller.
Sadly, it was more amateur radio-based horror.
Not really our cup of tea.
That said, it was nice to see another classic Heathkit! (I have two myself, one from 1939).
@DirtyEffinHippy I wouldn’t have dreamed of posting that 10 years ago, BTW.
But, you can’t be ashamed of things that are out of your control.
Take care, and good luck, Liana!
@DirtyEffinHippy Most of all, give yourself some time, and some forgiveness. I came to all this after 45 years of being chronically ill.
You’ll get there. And your friends will be waiting.
(Here’s what my hands currently look like, to explain that whole skin remark in the first post…)
@ProgressiveExec@Angry_Staffer Because *no one* would *ever* abuse that lost pet live footage service for nefarious purposes. 😳🙄
Clearly their (nonexistent 🤷🏼♂️) infosec team has never heard of steganography.
This is why AI code review is a bad idea. Any competent developer would’ve said, “Don’t do this.”
@JebsSteve0x1@FFmpeg Those are the magic ones!
(The coffee ones, not the programming language ones.)
I went a’Googling expecting to find some 30 year old references to the JavaBeans API. I did *not* expect a modern Oracle tutorial.
But, I also avoid Java like plague, so… there’s that.
@geerlingguy Not trying to justify it, just trying to look at it logically—and maybe a little humorously—to derive the thought process inside a company like Qualcomm that can clearly afford graphic designers and a full-time marketing staff would do this.
@geerlingguy I completely agree on principle, but you have to look at it from their perspective: they’re trying to get as many of their processors as possible into these new AI data center monstrosities.
I think they just assumed it’d be fine, since it was (theoretically) “their own work.”
@geerlingguy Okay, apparently I was quite lucky with that purchase. As, when I checked the supplier’s website now, the CM5116064 is currently priced at $215/each and is out of stock on indefinite backorder.
😳😮💨
@geerlingguy I got one & like you, I put a 16/64/Wifeless CM5 in it & a 2TB NVMe drive. I love having a a Pi-based daily driver.
On the CM5, some wholesalers are still selling them for the MSRP, but stocks are limited at that price.
(Apologies for the redactions! Trying not to dox myself!)
@DirtyEffinHippy Appreciate you for not treating things as normal.
I’m sure we’ll collectively get back to a point where we can be carefree & jocular again, but I can’t see that far over the horizon to know when.
In the meantime, best we can do is support each other & uplift those who need it.
@SureThen@wxbrad Yes.
I’d lived in town for four years, having moved from Florida. I thought it’d be like a hurricane party…
Four days without power, followed by ten days without internet.
It was traumatic.
Thankfully, I spent most of my time at CMPD HQ doing volunteer communications.
@geerlingguy@grok@3DInPhil@sparkfun@adafruit I’m obviously coming into this at the 11th hour with no context(aside from having patronized all these parties in the past), but that thread makes it clear as mud.(Not your fault, Jeff, you didn’t write it…)
It looks like everyone is disappointed & being civil. What’s the rub?
@e2c_p6n@geerlingguy I started using Serif Affinity Photo 2/Designer 2/Publisher 2, because not only are they a one-time purchase, but they’re one purchase across platforms.
And, unlike Adobe, they actually have feature parity on iPad. I just wish I could find good replacements for other Adobe apps.
@davepl1968 Ugh. You’re giving me nightmares!
Where’s the VAX cluster that is typically seen in such company? I mean, VMS was the very top of my OS horrors hits list back in ‘93!
