#GDAL 3.7.0 is released: https://t.co/pf2krSc7Ma . It includes JSON output for ogrinfo, TileDB vector support, reading of FileGeodatabase raster datasets, @sozip (Seek optimized ZIP) read/write support and many other enhancements and fixes.
@nheazlewood@Esri Some even say that a SOZip-compressed File Geodatabase is totally workable. Especially if you open it with @GdalOrg and its reverse engineered FileGeodatabase driver powered with VSI. #FOSS4G for the win!
@nheazlewood .shp, .dbf and .shx will be soon things that the end-user will no longer have to see. Welcome to the era where SOZip-enabled .shz and .shp.zip containers will be mainstream. @Esri hint hint ;-)
Certains disent de moi que je suis le ZIP optimisé pour le Nuage. Il y a du vrai là dedans, à condition que ce qu'on me fait compresser est aussi compatible nuage. A bon entendeur...
I'm happy to inform you of the first production use of SOZip! I've just sent my quaterly accounting documents to my accountant as a SOZip. Let's hope she doesn't notice anything... Fingers crossed!
Thanks for giving a try at us! Small technical correction: the "sozip" utility is/will be part of the GDAL command line utilities suite, and is thus a native C++ tool. The python "sozipfile" module is an independant implementations that can also be used to create SOZip files.
Seek-Optimized ZIP file (SOZip) - makes it possible to access large compressed files directly from a .zip file without prior decompression. https://t.co/LzUnTebKOV
