Today at the @alti_VU: Kai Zenner (@ZennerBXL/@Europarl_EN) on the AI Act. The event is put together by the one and only @spaceliability! Some of the points discussed:
➝ Political pressure led to a rush to adopt the AI law: this explains many of the problems in the final version.
➝ The European Parliament is a “divided” institution = weak in the trilogue, although its influence is increasing. The Council’s influence is diminishing and the EC’s influence is ever growing.
➝ The military is excluded from the AI Act; space may be indirectly covered by “critical infrastructure”, but nobody knows for sure, not even the EU Parliament.
➝ The definition of "open source" in the AI Act differs from that in other EU legislation…
