@WorldAndScience Local terraforming of craters or caves seems plausible. Terraforming all of Mars is a completely different challenge—probably centuries of technological and economic progress away.
@JeffBezos Have you considered an O'Neill-inspired Earth-Moon harbor ship? A Nautilus-X-style vessel assembled in orbit could become a permanent, reusable safe harbor for future generations and a lasting legacy beyond launch vehicles.
@TheEXECUTlONER_ Even when I drive a car past a line of slow moving cars, I reduce my speed. The cyclist doesn't appear to drive defensively by adjusting to the conditions of the traffic. Just because you have the right away means nothing if your vehicle can't protect you.
@SusieM414141 The person could have had explosives strapped on which would have had a different outcome to the plane and passengers. Security is good at keeping folks from bringing a water bottle onboard, but what about things they aren't thinking about?
@end3of6days9 Also worth noting—delaying Social Security isn’t just ‘waiting,’ it’s about an 8% increase per year after full retirement age. That’s a pretty strong, risk-free return.
@Doomerzoomer This ignores the biggest advantage young people have—time. You don’t need to invest a lot, just consistently. Over decades, compounding becomes the majority of your savings.
@Electroversenet This agrees climate change is real. 125,000 years ago there were no cities or infrastructure. Even short-term weather disrupts lives—and we don’t embrace that. Long-term climate change reshapes coastlines. Did civilization exist then?
@DesireeAmerica4 Take Social Security early or wait—that’s personal. But one fact is clear: age 70 gives you the highest guaranteed, inflation-adjusted income for life.
@Woodlandtrails@WallStreetApes My Dad died at 58 in 1980. Never collected any SS. My mom and was left with a 15 year old kid. Reagan reduced the Monthly benefits for the surviving parent. now stop when the youngest child reaches age 16 instead of 18.
@cb_doge If the moon were habitable like earth we would have never left it in the first place. The problem is the destination. Everywhere we go off earth we have to recreate earth conditions for our survival. The cheap easy part is making rockets to get there.
@BernieSanders universal basic income sounds like a form of welfare. the political power in this country is against that idea. even the idea of providing affordable health care is too much for those in power. how could any form of universal basic income ever come in to existance? nice dream.
@earthcurated until earth like conditions are created, any colony is going to be very limited. i don't see large numbers of people moving there. travel there and back is limited to windows on the calendar. folks will be eager to return to earth.
