Cancer cases in Andhra Pradesh have more than doubled over the past two decades — rising from about 38,000 in 2005 to nearly 78,000 in 2025.

Within this trend, **Kakinada district now carries one of the highest cancer burdens in the state, with around 8,101 reported cases.

The 20-year health trend in Andhra Pradesh shows a disturbing pattern.

This situation might have been very different if industries strictly followed the environmental norms prescribed by the Central Pollution Control Board.

Concerns from parts of the Kakinada industrial belt
• Nearly 30% of deaths are linked to COPD and severe respiratory diseases
• While we sleep, AQI levels in Kakinada have reportedly touched “Very Poor” peaks (~290)
• About 1 in 5 admissions at Government General Hospital Kakinada involve chronic lung disease
• Pediatric clinics report spikes in asthma and bronchiolitis during periods of heavy industrial activity

Now, large acid plant trial operations are reportedly underway. The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board must ensure:

• Transparency in real-time emission data
• Strict compliance with pollution control norms
• Protection of citizens’ Right to Clean Air

At a time when public health indicators are already alarming, visible industrial emissions demand strict regulatory scrutiny.

Public health cannot become collateral damage of industrial growth.

ఇలాంటి సమయంలో పెద్ద ఆసిడ్ ప్లాంట్ల ట్రయల్ కార్యకలాపాలు జరుగుతున్న నేపథ్యంలో Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board తప్పనిసరిగా:

• రియల్-టైమ్ ఎమిషన్ డేటాను ప్రజలకు వెల్లడించాలి
• కాలుష్య నియంత్రణ నిబంధనలు కఠినంగా అమలు చేయాలి
• ప్రజల శుభ్రమైన గాలి హక్కును రక్షించాలి

ప్రజల ఆరోగ్య సూచికలు ఇప్పటికే ఆందోళన కలిగిస్తున్న సమయంలో కనిపించే పరిశ్రమల ఉద్గారాలు కఠినంగా పరిశీలించబడాలి.

పరిశ్రమల అభివృద్ధి కోసం ప్రజల ఆరోగ్యం బలికాకూడదు.
