PayPal is great news. But if every international payment ends up flowing through a single telecom-controlled wallet, we’re just replacing one problem with another.
In big countries, dominant players eventually face competition. In a small market like Maldives, dominance can become permanent. Digital payment infrastructure should be open, not concentrated in the hands of a single gatekeeper.
Prisoners are served rotten fish, spoiled vegetables, and meals barely fit for consumption, sometimes causing rashes and allergies, while basic necessities are unavailable.
@min_mohst will you justify this too, saying “they are prisoners and will be treated as one”?
This incident will once again show the difference between a country that truly values human life & dignity and one that does not.
The Italian Gov spent resources to hire professional divers to retrieve the bodies of five of their citizens, transport them back to Italy, planning to conduct autopsies, and launch investigations into whether criminal negligence contributed to the tragedy.
Meanwhile, when @MNDF_Official CG diver Mahdhy died, he was buried within hours. To this day, the public does not even know whether he drowned, ran out of gas, or what exactly caused his death. It is unclear whether authorities seriously investigated the cause of death at all, let alone whether there was negligence by anyone involved.
A human life should never be treated as disposable, especially the life of someone who risked himself in service of the country.
Every life deserves answers.
Every death deserves accountability.
Five dhon meehas die to due to reckless diving and the whole world is crying over it.
Israels' been killing Palestinians for 78 years, not much mourning or media coverage.
On X, MFA & Addu Council boast of US 'security partnerships' while Gaza burns under US-funded bombs. How does a Muslim country claim solidarity with Palestine while embracing Israel’s chief protector? It isn't diplomacy, it's hypocrisy. Colonizers left, but the collar remains.
The world is soo far ahead but we Maldivians cannot have paypal, cannot have youtube monetising accounts, cannot use world’s best ecommerce sites that are affordable for everyday things like Temu, Shein, Lazada, etc.
Its a targetted effort and deliberate one
When the card is used the bank knows the location of the card, not the user. Tht is the key difference. Now the bank wants to know the location of each person using the card when it is being used.
But think abt this. What abt the person who does not have a BML account or card or does not use their card abroad? If the bank has access to immigration data, they will know his location also. A person who has no financial relationship with BML will have his travel data accessible to them.
Tht is not fraud prevention. Tht is mass surveillance with extra steps.
Now a Bank knows that I am actively not in country because "somehow" without my consent some government agency is actively telling them my business.
Where will this end?!
Where is my right to privacy?!
The Thoddoo agrochemical report 'From dying soils to hidden residues, Maldives faces a food‑safety crisis in slow motion' is a wake-up call.
Banned pesticides Carbaryl & Diafenthiuron have been found in food produce.
Residues far exceed safe limits:
• Dimethoate: 0.52 (limit 0.01)
• Permethrin: 0.95 (limit 0.05)
• Carbendazim: 0.61 (limit 0.2)
This is a serious public health risk requiring immediate intervention.
I urge @presidencymv@MFAORmv@Shiyamaldives@MoHmv to enforce regulations, protect consumers, and halt the use of hazardous chemical pesticides without delay.
We must also correct a dangerous misconception: the Maldives can grow food without toxic chemicals.
From 2006–2013, Island Organics successfully produced food organically on Maarikilu, training farmers across Baa Atoll (Kihaadhoo, Dharavandhoo, Kamadhoo, Kudarikilu, Maalhos) and across Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, Fuvahmulah, and Addu to transition away from chemical pesticides and increase food security.
This is not theoretical—it is proven.
In November 2013, this project was disrupted when, through a flawed bidding process to establish an integrated agricultural farm without chemical pesticides on Maarikilu was awarded to WIZ Company, President Waheed’s wife Ilham’s & her siblings'construction company with no prior agricultural experience; despite a functioning integrated organic farm established by Island Organics already in operation for 7 years!
We do not lack solutions. We lack honesty, accountability and justice!

Ban pesticides all together damn it cant even buy a copyfah bondi or papaya from a corner shop with peace of mind knowing it probably is laced with hormone disrupting chemicals.
This is deeply concerning.
Pesticide residue analysis from Thoddoo shows multiple crops exceeding EU safety limits, including banned chemicals like Carbaryl and Diafenthiuron detected in everyday foods like cucumber, papaya, and spinach.
This isn’t just overuse. This is a public health risk.
We need urgent monitoring, accountability, and farmer education before this becomes a crisis.
Addu Link Road is ten times worse. I don’t even know where to stop in mentioning the number of vehicles & spines that have suffered the damages.
Is there any relevant authority that cares?
