@ryanflorence@buhama_ > That much tax on cap gains is a huge lid to keep folks from escaping the grind
According to my math this is very very unlikely to have a meaningful effect.
@ryanflorence@buhama_ Are you talking about your specific situation or generalizing? You can’t have it both ways.
> For me personally right now, this proposal is the difference
If your exit already happened, you’re not affected.
@ryanflorence@buhama_ Even in the hypothetical worst case scenario, going from 26% effective tax to 44% is only going to be the difference between FI and not FI for a very specific size of exit.
Feels dishonest to say that this is definitely going to make any difference.
@ryanflorence@buhama_ Your original post says the proposal would “wipe out half of it”. That implies that you end up with ~50% of what you did before. I calculated the actual difference to show you that’s not the case. Taxes that remain the same do not affect the difference.
@ryanflorence@buhama_ This assumes that your exit requires liquidating everything in the same year and no part of it is company stock, NSO, RSU, or ISOs. Sounds like a very unlikely scenario to me.
@ryanflorence@buhama_ The plan[1] makes the *marginal* tax rate above $1M go from 20% to 39.6%. On a $10M exit that means going from $1.9M in tax to $3.7M. So you pay $1.8M (18%) extra. Not exactly “wiping out half of it”.

@TheoLandsman Why not? It makes him look like a selfless martyr, sacrificing for the good of the country. And it plants the seed for a great talking point for his voters: “I wouldn’t vote for Trump but Biden has done such a terrible job”.
I’m expecting bold tech CEOs to announce they’re making Apple Vision Pro standard for employees soon. This gambit will boost marketing, recruiting, spark remote collaboration innovation, and jump-start AR product ideas.
For now, @aesopskincare is my choice.
Over to you. What are your picks? Any other brands I should try?
Keep in mind that I’m only considering brands that have the full set (shampoo, conditioner, body wash). Here in NYC, the options are surprisingly limited!

Few scents, most of them too citrusy/green, but a couple good options in the floral/wood/incense categories. Quality is great: good cleansing power without drying or pulling. Nice elegant design, easy to use.
