@friedberg@TheChiefNerd@RoKhanna@sama David, for someone who touts classical liberal ideals you should actually read something from Hayek, Smith or even Friedman. It is obvious you don’t actually have a foundation in the subject and it’s disappointing how over opinionated you are. You only prove Ro’s point.
@Noahpinion Root issue has been accepting subordination to the U.S. economically since the 80's. It was historically a fair strategy, but our lack of independence hurts today. This caused items 1/2/3/4 that you listed and we now need radical change to be competitive
@PrairiePersp@WayneMathison@globeandmail Adding to this. Median wealth for retirees is over $500k. OAS clawback should be based on wealth and not income and we could meaningfully trim the expense without affecting senior lifestyles. It is an obvious point of savings.
@EricDLombardi Agreed...this should be our #1 issue.
If we means test on assets instead of income, we would save billions in OAS and people who need it would not suffer
@lucyhargreaves4 OAS is a terrible transfers from young to old. Should at least be means tested based on assets instead of income and we would see a major reduction in expenses.
@friedberg@RoKhanna Cost of education + healthcare are reasonable in all other G7 countries. All of which have more gov’t involvement. The issue in the US is corporatism and how it has driven half baked solutions. I like you David but think you are partially off here, although I agree with you on AI
@EricDLombardi Re: inheritance. As a lifelong GTA resident I have heard the same from my post of my peer group. Very sad and hope it changes. Thanks for your efforts.
@Theholisticpsyc Do you have any data or studies showing this pattern? Very interesting and something I have observed as well but not sure how to speak with the avoidants in my life about it.
@Daniel_Rapaport Pretty sure RBC wanted to make the Canadian open the signature event but it was rejected by the pga tour. It’s sad how long the Canadian open has been getting the butt!
@MikePMoffatt Great analysis! As a Hamiltonian, I also worry a part of the issue is that these homes are often funded/sustained using parental gifts.
I would be curious if you have ever seen how this correlates with parental gifting over time? And, if there are any signs of that tapering off
@eyeslasho Doesn’t this at least somewhat suggest the ideological capture of tech and other institutions is the result of the higher aptitude of the far left and that we should actually expect it in general?
@Andercot Looks like the time series is cherrypicked. Our prior "conservative" government was also ineffective. Regardless of gov't, our primary issue continues to be crony capitalism that supports our oligopolies in telco, finance, and other critical industries.
