The Washington County opinion is out on Virginia’s “assault weapon” ban.
It’s an excellent opinion. The court says all the right things and grants a second preliminary injunction.
But here’s the catch: it is not a statewide injunction.
The injunction applies to the defendants in the case:
Superintendent Katz (Virginia State Police)
The Commonwealth’s Attorneys for Washington, Chesterfield, Frederick, York, Giles, and Chesapeake.
That’s it.
A Fairfax County police officer can still make an arrest. A Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney can still prosecute. A Fairfax judge can still hear the case because they are not parties to this injunction.
That’s the problem. Virginians’ constitutional rights shouldn’t depend on what county they’re standing in.
Strong opinion. Limited relief. What a mess.
@CoreyBladeZ@joedodson16 Unfortunately not the law is still set to take effect July 1st it just bars the listed defendants and the vsp from enforcing the ban from what I can gather from attorney tim Anderson and a few others I’ve seen post about it but I’ve also seen posts say it was statewide
Dear @WhiteHouse, my name is Rodney Smith Jr., founder of Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service in Huntsville, Alabama. Through our 50 Yard Challenge, over 6,000 kids across the country have signed up to mow free lawns for the elderly, disabled, veterans, active-duty military, first responders, and single parents. With America celebrating its 250th birthday this year and me also being born on July 4th, I wanted to humbly ask if a few kids from our program and myself could travel to Washington, D.C. to help mow the White House lawn for this historic celebration.
More than anything, I want these kids to see how a simple act of service something as ordinary as mowing a lawn for someone in need can lead to extraordinary places. What better lesson in community service than showing them that helping others can take them all the way to our nation’s capital? I’d also love to bring my American flag-themed mower in hopes that the President might sign it, so I can later auction it off and donate 100% of the proceeds to a nonprofit supporting veterans. It would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to highlight the importance of service, patriotism, and the impact young people can have when they choose to make a difference. 🇺🇸
20 years of MIW has all led to this moment. Our new album “Decades” releases July 17th. This record is about survival, passion, connection, raw energy, and staring time in the face to question, “is that all you fucking got?”
🚨 NOW: Pressure is surging to STRIKE DOWN Virginia Democrats' new 10D-1R Congressional gerrymandering map using the court system
DO IT!
GLENN YOUNGKIN: "I urge the Virginia Supreme Court to rule against this unconstitutional process that will disenfranchise millions of Virginians."
FOX: "There have been multiple lawsuits including whether the ballot language was appropriate and whether the process to place the amendment on the ballot was legal."
Bring it ALL THE WAY to the top. Time for Florida to redraw. Play HARDBALL.
Fuck @GovernorVA you have done nothing but lie to the people you claim to care about you’re just another typical Democrat. I hope the Supreme Court of Virginia deans the gerrymandering unconstitutional as a big fuck you to your dumb ass.
