All of your positions and opinions will definitely seem correct if your story you are telling yourself is that anyone who disagrees with you, ‘doesn’t care about other people.’
Crazy how Man United have all these world-class players who are definitely good enough to compete for titles, but who've been let down 13 years in a row by having the wrong manager in charge.
What are the chances?
@bridgetown98@CurtisScoon Everyone has an internal desire to know what they were meant for in life. You are right that more people are finding that in politics. It’s also the reason you can’t compromise anymore, you aren’t meeting someone with a different perspective half way, you are compromising w evil
In under four years, Cambodia's government killed about a quarter of its own people.
When the communist Khmer Rouge, led by Pol Pot, seized the country in 1975, they declared it "Year Zero." History would start over from scratch.
They emptied the cities at gunpoint, marching some two million people out of the capital and forced the entire population onto collective farms.
Money was abolished. So were private property, religion, and schools. The goal was a pure agrarian state, built by forced labor.
The Communists set out to erase anyone who might think for themselves. Being a doctor, a teacher, or a monk could get you killed. So could speaking a foreign language or simply wearing glasses.
To save bullets, executioners often used hammers, hoes and sharpened bamboo. The bodies filled the mass graves that became known as the Killing Fields.
By the time a Vietnamese invasion drove the Khmer Rouge out in 1979, between 1.5 and 2 million Cambodians were dead out of a population of roughly 8 million.
One in four Cambodians. Dead. Not by war or natural disaster. From their own Communist government.
Slightly misleading. Brighton's big jump was after promotion (due to TV Money) £24m to £148M
They've grown from that to £222m over 9 years
On that trajectory, they should reach Liverpool's revenue level in around 60 years time. Assuming Liverpool don't grow at all
Capitalism has a curious habit of creating luxuries faster than socialism can declare them necessities. Two hundred years ago, free modern healthcare and today’s standard of living would have ranked somewhere between a unicorn and a personal dragon. Capitalism creates the impossible; socialism arrives afterward to explain that mankind had been entitled to it all along.
Using the method specified in the papers, @econpragmatist and I found that every landmark we tested can be attributed to increases in cancer, most at much higher values than nuclear power. Harvard alone accounts for almost as many attributable deaths as all US nuclear power.
My wife caught me doing something weird on a walk yesterday. She stopped and said, "Why do you keep adjusting your stride to make sure you step over the sidewalk cracks? Are you a five-year-old?"
I said, "It's just a little game to keep my legs stretched out."
She shook her head, mumbled something about marrying a toddler, and kept walking.
Little does she know... the cracks are high-voltage laser tripwires. The neighborhood is heavily guarded by a rival syndicate, and if my shoe even grazes a fault line, the invisible snipers take the shot. My agility is the only thing keeping us alive on this trip to Starbucks.
