So, while the news in 2024 isn’t exactly what we were hoping for, the absence of new flu cases in 2024 and improved survey methods are promising signs. With continued monitoring and care, there’s still hope that this spectacular seabird colony can bounce back.

A high-resolution drone survey - carried out in partnership with @GeosciencesEd, @UK_CEH & @EdinburghNapier in July 2024 - provided a detailed new look at the Bass Rock gannet colony.

SHE DID IT AGAIN!

Wisdom, the world’s oldest known wild bird, is back with a new partner and just laid yet another egg.

At an approximate age of 74, the queen of seabirds returned to Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge last week and began interacting with a male.

@SeabirdCentre The green dots are nests with eggs, but don’t be fooled by the nest numbers!
The red dots are nests which have failed and the blue dots are nests where we are still waiting for an egg to be laid, so check these out too!
