Metropolitan Demetrios of America paid a friendly visit to the Lesna Monastery and served a memorial service for the newly departed Schema-Abbess Angelina.
"The times ahead, more perhaps than ever before in the Church's history, are a time of what St. Gregory the Theologian well called 'suffering Orthodoxy.' We truly live in apocalyptic times: atheism is conquering the public sphere of the whole world, false religion increases as never before and captures many of those who awaken from the sleep of unbelief, the ecumenical movement draws nearer its goal of a false world
church (the harlot of the Apocalypse), and the spirit of the coming Antichrist begins to place its seal everywhere. Those who would be faithful to Christ in these terrible times must be prepared for sufferings and trials which will truly test the faithfulness of our hearts to Him. And yet, greater than these sufferings and the prince of this world who will inflict them upon us is He Who has promised to be with us even to the end of the age (Matt. 28:20)." - Saint Seraphim Rose †
@Sr_ADrei@KalebAtlanta Donatism concerned private sins that don't necessarily invalidate sacraments, while true Orthodox separation concerns public teaching of false doctrine that fundamentally contradicts the faith.
@Sr_ADrei@KalebAtlanta Breaking away from bishops who publicly preach ecumenism and perennialism isn't Donatism because Donatism rejected clergy based on their personal moral failings, whereas Canon 15 explicitly permits separating from bishops who publicly teach heresy. The key distinction is that
@GermanCarranza3@KalebAtlanta For not bishops, but false bishops and false teachers have they condemned, and they have not fragmented the Church's unity with schism, but from schisms and divisions have they earnestly sought to deliver the Church" (Canon XV of the so-called First-Second Council).
@GermanCarranza3@KalebAtlanta with bared head teaches it in the Church, such persons as these not only are not subject to canonical penalty for walling themselves off from communion with the so-called bishop before synodical clarification, but they shall be deemed worthy of due honor among the Orthodox.
@KalebAtlanta Meanwhile, many World Orthodox hierarchs including Pat. Kirill have openly endorsed ecumenist positions, suggesting salvation can be found in other religions, a clear expression of of perennialism. The refusal to denounce such views is not a mark of Orthodoxy but of compromise.
