1935 में इस प्रकरण को लेकर महत्वपूर्ण विवाद उत्पन्न हुआ था। मध्य प्रदेश सरकार द्वारा प्रस्तुत काउंटर एफिडेविट में संलग्न 1935 के आदेश के अनुसार, उस समय परिसर पर भोजशाला का बोर्ड लगा था तथा उसे हटाकर कमाल मौला मस्जिद का बोर्ड लगाने का विवाद था। आदेश में परिसर के भीतर स्थित देवी-देवताओं की मूर्तियों को हटाए जाने का भी स्पष्ट वर्णन किया गया है।
