Interesting study, but let’s not overstate it.This is a large observational cohort, not a randomized trial. The 25% lower all-cause mortality in the vaccinated group is suspiciously large for a vaccine whose main benefit in 18–59 year olds is reducing (already relatively rare) COVID deaths.That size of effect strongly suggests residual confounding — most likely the well-documented “healthy vaccinee” bias. People who chose to get vaccinated in 2021 tended to be more health-conscious, higher SES, better connected to healthcare, and different in dozens of unmeasured ways. Adjusting for a list of comorbidities rarely fully fixes this.The study itself shows vaccinated people still had lower mortality even after excluding COVID deaths. That should make us pause before declaring pure vaccine-driven protection.Large French data is useful. It does not prove the vaccines caused a 25% drop in deaths from all causes in young adults. Correlation ≠ causation, especially with self-selected groups this different.
