@SaffronOlive How many Standard formats in the pre-Arena/analytics/social media era would have been "solved" by today's standards and actually been awful formats? Not fully convinced on your power creep thesis, because it's missing the element of players just knowing how to minmax formats now.

@SaffronOlive @HRpufnsting Some Standard formats that were beloved today would be a lot worse if they came out today. Looking back, there was such much "meat left on the bone" w/r/t lack of optimization and min/maxing decks like we see today. Message boards were nothing compared to social media today.

@Yahtzeh Good list, but I would trade Dr. Mario for Magical Tetris Challenge. That game I believe introduced ghost pieces to Tetris (which has been a mainstay since) and combo attacks. Also getting a Pentris with the cursed pentomonio garbage blocks was just... *chef's kiss*.

@nestapendragon This is ok to play as long as you clearly separate it from your lands. Dryad Arbor is an awesome card anyway, it turns GSZ/Invasion/Finale/Nature's Rhythm into ramp spells :-)

@ChironTheMage @LeFeverSax I would argue that all the Standard bannings from 2019-2020 were far worse than Nadu for the game's health. The companion mechanic got literal power level errata for god's sake. There were so many bans going on then that it felt like going through Combo Winter Urza's Saga again.

@Noahpinion Dems can't go left because the US is culturally the most right-wing country in the rich world. Even in Singapore of all places they have state-controlled housing (govt owns ~90% of all land), draconian gun control, and gas prices that make California look like a red state.

@TheTrinketMage A lot of the format's power creep has mostly been due to deckbuilding getting minmaxed by content creators and social media platforms pushing optimization. Everyone is just better that building decks and gameplay than they were 10 or even 5 years ago.

@TheLastNeocon @SamQuinnCBS It helps that the analytics that affected football were basically, "Go for it more on 4th down." The optimization of the game already happened by telling coaches they were being way too conservative on punting. People love to see more 4th down dice rolling.

The more appropriate comparison IMO would be that Commander is closer to TF2. Most people play it for the fun of the hats and the party-like atmosphere, while 6s is the game's version of "cEDH".

@SaffronOlive @soliel022 Kitchen Finks is also a great example of a card that was played a lot in decks that only had access to one of the colors. Boomer Jund for example loved Kitchen Finks for stabilizing against hyper aggro red decks in Standard.

@TexAgBD1 @SportsTalk953 @LivCleary Yeah it's crazy. I forgot Jay Norvell was fired yesterday as well so we actually have 11 FBS coaches fired so far. Too many bad contracts from 2021, too many coaches that should have been fired last year, and some who should have never been hired to begin with.
