In response to the powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake that struck southeastern Afghanistan, the @IFRC has launched an emergency appeal for 25 million Swiss francs.
The @IFRC is coordinating closely with the @ARCSAfghanistan, which is leading local response efforts with its trained volunteers and branches across the affected areas. Field assessments are ongoing, and mobile health teams are supporting overwhelmed hospitals with first aid and ambulance services.
Through this emergency appeal, we are scaling up support to reach as many people as possible. Now, and over the next two years, international support is and will be critical to meet the sheer scale of needs on the ground.

At today's session on Early Warning for All, the Hon'ble Minister Lekhak has set the tone with a strong commitment to ensure everyone in Nepal is covered in no more than 5 years. We will help to ensure that communities know exactly what to do when warnings come.
🌄 Saving Lives in the Mountains: Strengthening Resilience through Early Warning Systems 🚨
In Nepal’s mountainous communities, the threat of landslides, floods, and extreme weather is a daily reality. But timely alerts can mean the difference between life and death.
As part of the Reducing Disaster Impact through Inclusive Preparedness and Anticipatory Action (REDI) project, the Nepal Red Cross Society, with support from the Finnish Red Cross, has installed a multi-hazard early warning siren system in Phalelung Rural Municipality. This system enables rapid evacuation and response, helping vulnerable communities stay safe during emergencies.
Nepal, with its complex terrain and growing climate risks, needs multi-hazard early warning systems more than ever. By integrating inclusive, climate-smart disaster preparedness and strengthening local capacities, we are building resilient communities from the ground up.
🤝 With local governments and partners, NRCS is committed to scaling up these efforts—strategically and systematically—so that no warning goes unheard, and no life is lost.
🔊 Let’s continue to invest in anticipatory action and empower communities to protect their lives, livelihoods, and future.

🔴 Nepal Red Cross Responds to Madhesh Drought with Urgent Humanitarian Action 🔴
Madhesh Province is in crisis. Over 1.2 million people are affected by a severe drought, with families struggling for access to clean drinking water, sanitation, and basic health services.
In response, the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS), with support from the IFRC's Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF), has launched an emergency operation to assist 60,000 of the most vulnerable people across Parsa, Bara, Rautahat, and Sarlahi districts.
📍 Key actions include:
🚚 Water trucking and installation of deep boreholes
🧼 Hygiene promotion and disease prevention
👥 Protection, gender inclusion, and community engagement
With our trained teams and dedicated volunteers already on the ground, NRCS is working hand-in-hand with local authorities and humanitarian partners — ensuring a united, community-first response that delivers real impact where it's needed most.
🤝 We call on all humanitarian actors to collaborate, align, and amplify our collective efforts to reach those most in need.
📢 When disaster strikes, the Red Cross is there — first, fast, and always with the people.

🚨 Simulation Saves Lives: Preparing Before Disaster Strikes 🌪️🏥
When a disaster hits, every second counts. But what if we could rehearse our response before the real crisis? That’s exactly what simulation exercises do—and they’re changing how communities think, act, and survive.
In Nepal, where earthquakes, floods, and landslides are a part of life, these drills aren’t just practice—they’re lifesaving rehearsals. From mock search-and-rescue to hospital surge simulations, they:
✅ Build public confidence
✅ Expose gaps in response systems
✅ Strengthen coordination among responders
✅ Change mindsets—from fear to readiness
💡 Since the 1980s, the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) has led the way—embedding a culture of preparedness deep into local communities:
🔹 1988: First community-based disaster preparedness (CBDP) pilots
🔹 1990s–2000s: Expansion to flood-prone and earthquake-vulnerable districts
🔹 2015: Earthquake drills saved lives when the real quake struck
🔹 Today: NRCS runs over 1,000 community-based disaster risk reduction (CBDRR) initiatives across Nepal
These efforts don’t just prepare people—they empower them.
🛠️ Preparedness is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. A culture of simulation and readiness is our strongest defense.
Let’s invest in it. Let’s advocate for it. Let’s save lives—before the disaster hits.
