As much as 10x higher airfares sting, the root issue remains an acute supply shortage, not profiteering. I understand and appreciate the impulse to protect the common traveler, but in reality, these higher prices are the exact mechanism that ensures those who need these flights most urgently (e.g. life-threatening medical emergencies) continued access, rather than facing a de facto lottery.
