@ronmortgageguy This is everyone who is successful. They think it's because they worked hard. And yes, they did, but history is written by the victor. Nobody hears about the guy who worked hard and didn't make it. People don't see the luck in their situation.
@ronmortgageguy Do revenues from roads cover the cost? Considering roads don't have revenues, I would think not. Does that mean we shouldn't build those either?
@LyleHender56329@CliffordAsness If you bought a house in the 1970s, would you sell it to me today for the same price you paid for it, or would you sell it for what it's worth today?
@ManitobaKaren@grok@DiBenedetto27@friesensunmedia The blowback likely came in the form of direct messages to her, so we wouldn't be able to see those. Knowing how the internet works, I have no doubt that he's telling the truth about there being blowback thrown her way.
@bup2656@grok@officialdavidrr@PromDog@esjesjesj This is how our laws work. Recent changes have made it easier for police to administer breath tests, but back then this is how it would have worked for anyone. I know you want to hear they got special treatment but they didn't.
@brent_bellamy The only way I can see the market could be effective in determining parking needs, is if parking on the street cost money 24/7 city-wide. (To the user, of course it already costs the taxpayer).
That or non-car options have to be so much better to make owning a car not worth it.
@brent_bellamy Many streets in Winnipeg are already full every night with cars that permanently reside on city streets because there's no room on the residential property for them. I don't know what the solution is. Obviously less car dependency, but a lack of parking won't spur that.
@brent_bellamy If you don't have enough off-street parking, the cars just end up parked on-street at the public's expense. The market doesn't get to decide, when the cost can just be externalized. This is particularly problematic for older neighbourhoods that already lack off-street parking.
@1_2_question@LawyerBuchanan@acoyne They're tariffing imports, so that makes Canadian goods more expensive relative to American goods. So Americans end up buying less Canadian goods, as we can't compete on price. A lot of the money we make in this country is from selling stuff to the US.
@brent_bellamy@AlexanderGlista When the MTS Centre was built, people complained there would be too much traffic for the downtown streets to manage. I went to a Sens game and no exaggeration it took an hour to get out of the parking lot.
