I believe it is a fear of open source Chinese models that are:
1. massively cheaper to run.
2. whose performance is less than frontier labs, but still acceptable for many applications.
3. run locally so a business doesn't feel they are exposing their IP to Anthropic (for example), then Anthropic tries to compete with them.
Thoughts? fwiw, I am long.
@TMTLongShort Thoughts on increasing talk of open source Chinese models that near US models performance at much cheaper cost is creating a Deep Seek II moment?

@aleabitoreddit IMO, increasing talk of open source Chinese models that near US models performance at much cheaper cost is creating a Deep Seek II moment.
@TheShortBear Your exit was great, whether silver is at 120 or 80 today. You chose the future Short Bear (longevity) over the current Short Beat (be right or wrong on this trade).
@AMeshkati@RyanDetrick@yardeni This guy backtested The Economist cover indicator. He reports it has edge. I've never verified, but it is believable.

Magazine Cover Capital goes short VXX.
6 of the last 7 trades have been winners including big wins short $TSLA, $NVO and $DKNG.
Updated results sheet attached.
@TMTLongShort I understand managing vol. Their walking stuff down. Can you please elaborate on the analogue to how TSLA traded after the shorts were blown out a few times?
In my view, there's not a particularly good chart pattern to label this price action with. The best fit to me is a possible head & shoulders bottom. A break above the neckline would suggest higher, a break below the right shoulder low suggests lower. Fwiw, TMDX's top in 2024 was a well formed h&s top. Weekly & daily chart shown.
What is your view on cutting government spending by 10%-15%, as is the stated goal? That it won't happen? In my view, if it happened (apart from it being good bad or otherwise), it's impact would be the thing the market would have to deal with, more so than where these tariffs go.
@BobEUnlimited "By viewing the policies as a transitory bluff, markets are largely looking past their growth drag. While that's possible, the risk is clearly skewed to the downside." Love this point, Bob.
