@MTGrepp@elonmusk I’m Australian and I’ve never had to show my ID. Every citizen is required to show up to vote, so everyone’s name is on the list. When you show up, your name gets crossed off. Pretty simple really.
Not sure why Australia is on that list.

@yyr770@elonmusk@stevenmarkryan I suppose the other key difference is that we just don’t actually take our politicians that seriously. Every politician from every party says that the country will be doomed If the other side gets in and then every year we’re not doomed no matter who gets in. So no need to worry.
@yyr770@elonmusk@stevenmarkryan True, I can’t imagine why anyone would want that. That’s why I don’t believe most of the stories I hear from either side of politics. However if all people voted then any small % of illegal immigrants that somehow managed to vote, wouldn’t statistically make a difference.
@yyr770@elonmusk@stevenmarkryan Like most politics, I imagine some people from both sides oppose it.
The other thing that we do in Australia is have voting always be on a Saturday to make it easier for people to attend.
@elonmusk@yyr770@stevenmarkryan@elonmusk , wouldn’t this also prevent the issues with non citizens allegedly voting in your country? To be on the electoral role in Australia with mandatory voting, you need to be a citizen.
@elonmusk@yyr770@stevenmarkryan Why not just have mandatory voting like in Australia. Then everyone who is of legal age and meet eligibility criteria are automatically needed to vote. Easier to balance roles of citizens and also get an actual representative result. “We the people”, not “some of the people”.
