A real pet hate of mine - is it driven by job security?
- What if the "team lead" goes absent (accident/health)
- What happens when you scale to a larger team?
Make SIMPLE and CONCISE user docs EASILY FINDABLE and request updates to them in PR reviews

Forced to log back in here as I couldn't get into a third party web site which was authenticating with this account (not for much longer) because apparently twitter needed me to have a birth date associated with my account.
If you aren't already doing so, follow me on #Mastodon.
@gwennelsonuk@mediocreDevops@thepine64 Yeah probably not too hard to fix but I ended up just locking the rotation which will do for now. I'd love to be working on progressing the OS support more but sadly it's not yet part of my paid job to work on RISC-V (other than keeping java/nodejs builds running on the platform)
While this site is fundamentally dead to me I felt it was worth coming to share this photo of a #RISCV tablet from @thepine64 which now has a viable basic KDE desktop OS image: Here it is running #NodeJS v20.5.1 and an early access build of #Temurin 21 😁😍
@gwennelsonuk Twitter forced a password reset on me and I couldn't be bothered doing it until I needed to authenticate for another site so only just saw this. Yeah the cover photo was my office setup - the post-COVID working from home setup isn't too dissimilar though https://t.co/ZxDHqbDPwi
@mediocreDevops@thepine64 Yeah UI performance is probably better than I expected too. Konqueror starts up but doesn't work properly, so the photo has firefox, but the rest of the UI seems ok but at the moment rotating the screen causes a crash so you have to keep it in landscape. Definitely usable though.

It's 2023. Make the break. Take a stand @JoinMastodon
@martinbean@hollylawly That inconsistency with account types is somewhat frustrating ... The "detect markdown" checkbox in the preferences exists regardless, it just doesn't seem to have this effect in one of the accounts without the required availability :'(
@thepine64@omgubuntu@risc_v Noted - thanks for the reply. Really interested in seeing how it works out as this looks superficially like the RISC-V device I've really wanted and since I have a VF2 (and others...) the tab would be more interesting than the Star64.
https://t.co/nOtEEMAQv1
Selection of @risc_v boards on my desk. Sadly the VF2 in the middle - the fastest one - is misbehaving (probable RAM issue) #RISCV
- #BeagleV prototype (2C/8G)
- @mangopi_sbc Allwinner D1 (1C/1G)
- @StarFiveTech#VF2 (4C/8G)
- @SiFive HiFive (32-bit)
- @SiFive Unleashed (4C/8G)
@thepine64@omgubuntu@risc_v You say it won't come with an OS but will it be possible to install any Star64-suitable OS installed and initially be used as a Star64 but with built in screen? If so, that's good enough for me :-)
I really can't figure out what Musk is trying to do. Did he offer to buy Twitter as a joke and then got stuck when he couldn't back out so it's now a game? Is he keen to lose 'dead wood' users as well as employees? Or will his masterplan mean twitter is thriving in a year's time?
OK I finally get it. Elon wants to have his own version of The Apprentice at twitter and give them little tasks and fire the perceived weaker ones ... https://t.co/pGGb6Udccj
twitter has been attempting to build a direct response ads business for nearly its entire existence
BUT they never had a one-week deadline to motivate them before….

@Raspberry_Pi Just spotted that one of the screens there has a reference to my project's build status monitor which was using a couple of different @Raspberry_Pi HATs e.g. the original Unicorn🦄 HAT https://t.co/Rf0U9CA4r1
Feeling a bit more in control of the @adoptopenjdk build status thanks to this LED array of versions/platforms at my desk on a @Raspberry_Pi#UnicornHAT which is pulling data from our @jenkinsci at https://t.co/ldUoPpHe0d :-D
@Raspberry_Pi I'm never quite sure what people make of mine ... The pre-COVID office version is in my cover photo, the WFH setup isn't a million miles away though! https://t.co/Iil8dKh79c
@bmarwell IBM's MQ JMS implementation shipped with an SxaSecurityImpl.class as part of the SSL connectivity support. I think it eventually got renamed but it was only ever intended as a placeholder name as I didn't have a better one at the time 🤣
#retroGaming Having a clear out and found a copy of this Star Trek game for the early 80s #Dragon32 home computer. Must have been an early copy as it seems that it was renamed to Dragon Trek later presumably for copyright reasons.

@jonatan_ivanov Yeah you'd hope the number of reasons would be trending to zero now but a sizable proportion of the Temurin downloads are still from people explicitly choosing 8 (The default on the web site if users click the big blue button on the front page is 17)
The bottom line: If you're not stuck on JDK8 for a good technical reason, get yourself up to 17 (Ideally #Temurin 😆 ) as soon as you can. It's a lot more efficient ...
@antonpiatek @planetf1 The Temurin ones are all using the hotspot JVM (Even on AIX, pLinux and zLinux) IBM's OpenJ9 (badged Semeru as Nigel says) now uses the OpenJDK codebase but with hotspot ripped out of it and replaced with the OpenJ9 VM.

Did you know that Red Hat is the biggest company contributing fixes to the newly released JDK20 other than Oracle? Now you do!
In addition, did you also know that @RedHatJava also leads the maintenance of the JDK8 and JDK11 LTS codebases that many people still use? #openjdk#java

Also: Eclipse Temurin's release of JDK20 from @adoptium is now available on the top platforms. (Others appearing soon as they complete testing)
