@TO_Transport @TrafficServices@cityoftoronto Any enforcement of basic traffic laws stopped years ago. This laughable tweet won’t change that. Why even sending it? #zerovison
I stand with the people of Hamilton, @HamiltonsMayor and their council who were betrayed by Premier Doug Ford. The planned LRT could’ve changed lives, boosted their economy and lifted up a city. Ford’s reckless and dishonest cancellation will hurt generations of Hamiltonians.
Mayor @JohnTory's solution:
Raise TTC fare for the 5th time in his 6 years as mayor.
Spend $3,600,000,000+ on rebuilding an urban highway for motorists.
On a 12-minute bike ride to a meeting this morn, I encountered:
> A driver going the wrong way up a 1-way who honked at me for “not getting out of the way”
> The driver stuck behind me, who rolled down his window to yell “faggot” at me as he sped by
> 12 cars parked in bike lanes
Now that we've geofenced speed limits on thousands of 30lb, 20mph max scooters, it's time we do the same for the 278 million, 2-ton, 100+mph max cars that kill 40,000 Americans a year. If a scooter can do it, any modern car can. #VisionZero#mobility https://t.co/dw82RZmqEX
Why can’t we have the pictures of drivers parked in a bike lane uploaded to @311Toronto@TorontoPolice and have a ticket automatically issued to the car owner. Budget shortfall? #BikeTO can fix that with a large portion of tix revenue going to protected infrastructure #AppForThat
I have come to expect very little transformative changes in Canadian cities for 2 reasons:
1: transportation is driven by the needs of cars & drivers
2: housing/development are driven by the goals of developers
Until this shifts, we are tinkering at the margins of our problems
Had two drivers almost run over my foot in the span of one block on University Ave. Right on reds should be banned. The number of drivers who have a complete disregard for pedestrians is shocking. Toronto needs to do something.
We need to hop off this crazy merry-go-round and stop the road building insanity. Houston spent $3 billion to widen it's freeway and congestion got worse! Road pricing is the proven way out: it inspires different choices about how and when to use roads: https://t.co/nLevC4glTU
Amid arm-band backlash, police data shows most pedestrians and cyclists killed or seriously injured in Toronto are hit in daylight, with clear visibility. Data also shows it is the actions of deadly drivers, not pedestrians, leading to dangerous streets. https://t.co/Be3M13WP9o
if you cannot see pedestrians in non-reflective gear, consider the possibility that your night vision is too poor OR you are driving too quickly/ recklessly to be on the roads at night
operating a 2-ton steel machine is a privilege, walking in your neighbourhood is a right
