How many times are people gonna vote for these liars that claim to care about fiscal responsibility? They also claim to care about their children as they run up a massive debit that they will leave them. Pathetic.
I think people are not focusing enough on the authenticity that led to Mandani's victory. I can't be the only one done with voting for liars. I have a wide range of people that I would vote for politically if I feel they are genuine and honest.
@Cloudchord Also, I don't think people are factoring in the power of connecting with the community directly via social media. We could see some interesting reforms if he can continue to motivate people.
@Cloudchord He is the first major politician to really get TikTok. He is also an amazing communicator and has shown time and again to be practical about things vs dogmatic. At the young age of 33, I could see him failing as mayor, but I'm excited to see some fresh blood try.
If you look and Mamdani and Trump, and your takeaway is that they are both successful because they are both Populists, then you don't get it. One did everything possible to connect and relate to the people, and the other lied constantly from a position of power and superiority.
@XJosh Illegal immigrants are already excluded from Medicaid except for a few states using their state funds. Don't we believe in states' rights anymore?
@NateSilver538 You would think that there might be some self-reflection about this after they seemingly lost the Native American vote to Trump. Even the people they are trying to support and protect are tired of them.
How is someone supposed to open a new business and do it legally when you are competing against a system of people cheating? It's crazy to me how progressive this city can claim to be and yet also be so dysfunctional that it can't stick up for anyone.
I have been told by an owner of a bar in Williamsburg that everyone at his bar makes "shift pay" of $40 cash and then takes home the tips. How common is this and how do we stop it? He told me that almost every bar in the neighborhood does it. Tipping has broken so many things.
To be clear, this means that all the servers are completely off the books. How is someone supposed to compete with people who run their businesses this way? Is this common in other cities? Practices like this affect everything including the cost to rent a bar space.
I sense that people are undervaluing the younger people in politics and overvaluing the older people. I think Trump is overvalued in his ability to win, but I wouldn't underestimate Harris or Vance. It's a good sign for democracy when we have younger people in positions of power.
