Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) incidence has been linked to higher socioeconomic status, as shown in the Global Burden of Diseases 2016 study, which found increased ALS rates in regions with higher sociodemographic indices. Building on this, our research explored how socioeconomic factors influence ALS risk and progression.

While we found no significant link between socioeconomic status and ALS risk, our study revealed that a higher income is associated with a younger onset of ALS, suggesting that socioeconomic factors may influence the timing rather than the likelihood of the condition. This was thought to be due to factors like better awareness and quicker diagnosis in regions with higher sociodemographic indices.
