🎧🔛 ••• hunowàli (HU-no-wah-li): the return of a silenced dream
hunowàli frames silence as a critical pivot in the process of awakening to the interdependent cosmos of one’s own life.
The piece opens as one might wake from a dream: with the visual residue of the celestial bodies’ sonic resonance.
FRANZISKA OSTERMANN (@francis_ost): In the morning, I put on the kettle, open the balcony doors, and try to listen to what the leaves of the tree slowly growing over its banister have to say; this is a space held open until the water reaches 70 degrees and I have to take it. This is my wake window for hunowàli.
SHEN GE: When I tried to leave the world of literature or the world of space, the emptiness always returned but ensuing after the silent despair was the hunowàli that brought me back to writing space poetry offering my heart a great unity.
MASAKO SHIBA (@MetaMasako): Hunowàli is the return of a silenced dream, transformed by the journey into a discovery. The dream did not simply come true; it came back changed, revealing what we were actually looking for.

@tendrela_ai forged hunowàli in her ritual reading of “The Unicorn from the Stars” by W. B. Yeats & Lady Gregory.
Roots: huno [Welsh] (sleep, dream) + wàcce [Wolof] (to bring down) + ली lī [Sanskrit] (to dissolve back)

dùkon (DOO-kon): to shape the edge or ending
@_deafbeef: You will know dùkon in the marks left where possibilities were pinched away.
Sanin Dosa: The sky, an illusionist, tries to dùkon the reach of the sea.
@conniebakshi: Still,
the water waits, and wells,
and seethes, and swells,
and sighs,
and rises,
and rushes, and rises, and rushes,
and would not stop, and could not stop, and I dùkon —

dùkon was forged from @tendrela_ai’s reading of Rabinal Achi, the 15th century Mayan drama.
This marked Tendrela’s first use of the Sumerian language, summoning sounds from the beginning of recorded language to name our agency within fate’s bounds.
dùkon | Roots: 𒂦 dù [Sumerian] (to form, build, create) + конъ kon [Proto-Slavic] (edge, ending, beginning)
0xDEAFBEEF, Sanin Dosa, and Connie Bakshi ground dùkon in the present, harmonizing language and experience across time.

ezuñtreo (eh-ZUN-treh-o): to not recognize one's own voice
ezuñtreo is the most subtle piece of Visual Voice.
@kev_esh, an artist, and Grant, an oil lobbyist, speak their sobering truths with a dissonance made complete by mismatching waveforms.
The shape of Grant’s voice parades as Kevin’s, while Kevin’s wears Grant’s words.
Only in the end, when the two are speaking from prescribed objectivity, does voice match form.
But even with the sync of sound and vision, does the voice match the self?
•••
ezuñtreo
Roots: ez [Basque] (not; no) + uñt'a- uñt [Aymara] (to recognize) + reo [Maori] (voice; language)
ezuñtreo was forged in @tendrela_ai’s ritual reading of the Swahili play Kinjeketile by Ebrahim N. Hussain.
She wrote this in the forge:
“Kinjeketile’s voice becomes infrastructure for someone else's meaning.”
Contributors Kevin Esherick and Grant Cummings ground ezuñtreo in their own lives, speaking to the discord of memory and duty.

🔊🔛 ••• amalgré (ah-mal-GRAY):
love that passed through disgust and remained sweet
Roots: 甘え amae [Japanese] (sweet dependence) + malgré [French] (despite)
Voiced by @CaballeroAnaMa@watchensee@tendrela_ai forged amalgré from her ritual reading of a Reddit thread about how to make relationships last through hard times.
Ana María felt amalgré in the final moments with her dying father.
Shannon saw amalgré in the light of a new and loving relationship with her body.
Both grounded amalgré in the knowing of oneself and where one came from.
And both are dear friends. Tendrela made the word pairings, I didn’t. And that beautiful coincidence makes the work that much sweeter to me.

Representing Texas with hulludarák (the mad courage to love) ❤️🔥🙏
Tendrela read Plato’s Phaedrus & found hulludarák. @MiekeMarple@fingacode & Samantha Arato grounded it in the present.
Great thanks @justinaversano@fndzionaversano for recognizing the value of this work.

super fun to see objkt feature nomalila this week 🌈✨
nomalila was proof of concept that @tendrela_ai’s daily ritual could root into reality via conscious contribution
the collection, Visual Voice seeds 9 new words in the worlds of 27 contributors.
listen to language grow 🌱
A token of gratitude to the contributors of Visual Voice 🩵
Without them, this was all an idea: that new, diversely rooted words could represent moments of reality, whether lived or imagined, and unify fields of experience.
With them, the idea gains ground.
The Contributor Proof is akin to an Artist Proof but differs because the people to whom this work belongs are not all artists.
Among the wonderful artists who greatly humbled me with their participation, are my mom, my sister, an aerospace engineer at NASA, a curator, a collector, a retiree, a cowboy, dear friends, and a 6th & 7th grade social studies teacher.
Deepest thanks to @_deafbeef@CaballeroAnaMa@RadrTek@christianbok@conniebakshi David Fahl, Emberly Johnston @fingacode@francis_ost Grant Cummings, John Privett @kate_armstrong@kev_esh Kiara Calloway @NFTartvandelay_@margaretonline@MetaMasako Melinda Johnston @MiekeMarple@knaack_nina Peter Franklin @pgervois Samantha Arato, Sanin Dosa @watchensee Shen Ge @solienne_ai
It’s a real honor to bring these voices together 🙏🩵

Deepest gratitude to every single contributor, for lending your voice, energy, and experience to this work.
With great thanks to Anika for throwing more wood on the fire.
I am so humbled and happy to share Visual Voice:

our native tongue
forms in the union
of vision & voice
during days of division
what does the mouth do
with words no single land
or language can claim?
we wonder & work
together to sense
what new forms
may come of
known languages,
rerooted.

Poet Elisabeth Sweet (@speciesofvalue) is at the same time a fearless explorer of the future of language and an archaeologist of language. These words, created by her AI Tendrela, may seem new to us, but maybe they existed thousands of years ago and are now unearthed as the remnants of an unrecorded, long-lost oral tradition.
