This describes my 5yo daughter perfectly. Never heard someone so accurately and precisely describe their child having exactly the same “style” as my little girl. I actually am going to try using a laptop for her as opposed to an iPad to see if she does the same (she can work the iPad, but still directs my hand/arm to do it a lot of the time).

My grandfather was one of the main engineers who worked on the engine design and related systems for the SR-71. According to him and others I have spoken to, it involved an incredible amount of drafting paper (think pencils) and huge teams of drafters doing the equivalent of CAD and constantly making revisions…so redrafting on paper again and again.

The data analysis for performance was exactly the same. Large drafting teams using paper and pencil to plot data points on very long and large paper tables to visualize the raw data. And the. Doing it again and again.

My grandfather actually met and married one of the drafting technicians (my grandmother) at that company years before the SR-71 project. For reasons of national security and clearance, my grandmother was required to move to a different company because it was considered a security issue to have a husband and wife working on the same projects.

When the Cold War really got things into overdrive, Pratt and Whitney moved huge portions of the engineers, drafting, and other related jobs from Connecticut to south Florida to do the whole “skunk works” secret programs in a more remote/secure location. Resulting in me being a born and raised Florida boy despite having most of my mom’s family being primarily in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
