PTI condemns denial of meetings with Khan, others, warns repression will not silence people

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram strongly condemned the continued denial of meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi and Hammad Azhar, calling it a blatant violation of their constitutional, legal and fundamental rights.

He urged the judiciary to implement its orders at once and hear long-pending petitions for access to family, lawyers and healthcare, instead of spending judicial time and public resources on petitions meant to restrict PTI’s lawful, peaceful political activity.

In a statement issued by the PTI Central Media Department on Thursday, Waqas said a person in custody is entitled under the law to legal counsel and family members, and no authority may arbitrarily deny these rights. He asked the court to hear Hammad Azhar’s petition with the urgency due in fundamental-rights cases and immediately allow meetings with his family and lawyers.

PTI’s CIS said it was deeply regrettable that petitions on the constitutional and legal rights of PTI leaders and workers remain pending for long periods, while petitions to restrict peaceful political activity are heard with unusual speed.

He urged the judiciary to show the same urgency in cases concerning Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi and other political prisoners, especially access to counsel, family, healthcare and other fundamental rights. He called on the courts to protect political prisoners, safeguard their rights, and bring politically motivated cases to a lawful conclusion without further delay.

Waqas asked the courts to enforce their decisions on meetings and prisoners’ rights rather than allow unnecessary litigation to consume judicial time and public resources.

He said the Constitution guarantees the right to peaceful assembly and political expression, and the judiciary must protect it. The petition against peaceful activity should be rejected at once, as protest against injustice and the denial of constitutional rights is a legitimate democratic right.

PTI will continue its peaceful democratic struggle until constitutional governance is restored and those in power without the people’s mandate are removed, he said.

Waqas strongly condemned the ongoing crackdown on PTI leaders, workers and supporters ahead of the party’s 27 September peaceful long march. He said raids, arrests, detentions, harassment and attempts to spread fear cannot silence the public or stop them from exercising their constitutional right to peaceful assembly. He warned the government against repeating political repression and urged the courts to take immediate notice and ensure no citizen is victimised for exercising constitutional rights.

میں واک کے لئے جاؤں تو امریکہ کی ایران کے خلاف جنگ پر سیاسی امور کے ماہرین کی انگریزی میں گفتگو سنتا ہوں۔ کبھی کبھی ڈاکٹر معیدپیرزادہ کو بھی سن لیتا ہیں۔ پاکستانی معیار کے مطابق وہ کافی بہتر ہیں۔ تجزیہ بھی اچھا ہوتا ہے۔ کڑیاں ملا لیتے ہیں۔

لیکن ایک چیز کی کوفت ہوتی ہے۔ ساری terminology مغربی میڈیا کی استعمال کرتے ہیں۔ اب تک اسرائیل کی دہشتگرد فوج کو Israeli defense forces کہتے ہیں۔ اور یمن کے انصار اللہ مجاہدین کو ایران نواز یا ایرانی کے پراکسی "ہوتیز" کہتے ہیں۔ پہلی بات یہ ہوتی نہيں ہے، حوثی ہے۔

مغربی یہ اصطلاح انصار اللہ مجاہدین کے لیڈر عبدالملک بدرالدین حوثی کی وجہ سے استعمال کرتا ہے۔ جیسے انگریز برصغیر کے مسلمانوں کو ممڈنز کہتے تھے۔ ڈاکٹر معیدپیرزادہ کچھ چیزوں میں لکیر کے فقیر ہیں خاص کر زبان کے بارے میں۔ اصطلاحات کے بارے میں۔ ذرا بھی تفکر نہيں کرتے۔

تلفظ کا بھی یہی حال ہے۔ اب تک ایرانی وزیر خارجہ عباس عراقچی کا درست تلفظ نہيں بولتے۔ انگریزوں کی طرح pronounce کرتے ہیں۔ حالانکہ کسی دن اگر دو منٹ لگائیں تو سیکھ سکتے ہیں جیسے صدر مسعود پزشکیان کا درست تلفظ انہوں نے بالآخر سیکھ لیا ہے۔ ایک شخص جسے لاکھ سے اوپر لوگ ہر روز سنتے ہیں ان کا فرض بنتا ہے اپنی لسانی صلاحیت کو بہتر کریں تا کہ سننے والوں کو کوفت نہ ہو۔
