What happens when a disaster overwhelms local hospitals?

At Cal Guard’s Mather Flight Facility, a statewide exercise led by @CA_EMSA simulated a large-scale emergency that overwhelmed regional hospitals, requiring patients to be moved across the state for continued care.

The exercise tested patient movement, a temporary field hospital, and coordination between emergency medical, public health, hospital and military partners. @Cal_HHS @Cal_OES @CA_EMSA @CAgovernor @USNationalGuard

At the direction of Governor Newsom, Cal OES has activated the State Operations Center to support resource coordination, maintain situational awareness, and assist local response efforts associated with the hazardous materials incident in Garden Grove.

Local officials remain in unified command of the incident. Everyone within the evacuation area should comply with guidance from local authorities.

Ukrainian military leaders visited California this week through the State Partnership Program — a DoD initiative pairing National Guard states with partner nations, including California and Ukraine since 1993.

Thirty-three years later, that partnership remains as strong as ever.
