@Neshincognito@Mo3Muse@h0nestgswfan Adding onto this: was emerging from Lakers double/triple big lineups with Odom/Pau/Bynum that were successful and 11-15 era didnt have enough skilled bigs to replicate. Also teams took the wrong ideas about failure of offense first teams like Suns and went defensive heavy.
@MonkeygetFunky@Ty_155@MunstaMasta Most players don’t get close to 50% on hooks and the sky hook is much more difficult. That’s why most bigs default to using the better spacing of today’s game to get looks at the rim rather than working in the low post because it’s just so much more work for less payoff
@MonkeygetFunky@Ty_155@MunstaMasta Well yea. 50% from two OVERALL as a big is not optimal. League average at the rim is well over 60% and bigs shoot over 70% there. For the time, Kareem’s sky hook was the most efficient hook in the game at the time but him dunking at the rim was still better.
@ACDload@menthol__1@velly227@Flyhigher67 He still was really good especially in his dpoy season. Part of it was because of Brook Lopez being that elite drop defender and Bledsoe being a great POA so Giannis only had to switch every now and then but still was really good in my eyes.
@menthol__1@velly227@Flyhigher67 Exactly his one on one perimeter defense especially against guards got noticeably worse over the years. It got harder for him to move his feet quickly and navigate screens
@Tchhala007@Dort_for_dpoy@duydidt@jasehoops Take a 5/10 scoring night - 50% fg. Player A took 10 2pointers for 10 points. Player B shot 10 3s but generated 15 points. Did they score on the same efficiency? Let’s say both took 10 2s but one player made 5/5 free throws as well for 15 points. Did those two score the same?
@Tchhala007@Dort_for_dpoy@duydidt@jasehoops No they had some inefficient SHOOTING nights but constantly SCORED above league average efficiency throughout their careers. Free throws generate points = scoring. That’s literally all anyone who touts true shooting is saying. https://t.co/z3fuJnbpqt this explains it well
@Tchhala007@Dort_for_dpoy@duydidt@jasehoops Field goal percentage would paint a Kobe or harden as poor scorers when even on their bad nights, making 10+ free throws on 80% is still a positive indication of their scoring prowess and efficiency and hints at how teams are still selling out to guard them and fouling a lot.
@Tchhala007@Dort_for_dpoy@duydidt@jasehoops Effective field goal percentage already does that. While field goal % is the raw stat for accuracy, True shooting is generally the gold standard for scoring efficiency that correctly takes into account that free throws should count as a scoring attempt.
@Tchhala007@Dort_for_dpoy@duydidt@jasehoops Jokic had a season with 63% fg and 38 from 3. And it absolutely was not common knowledge, George Gervin famously said the 3 was the worst shot in basketball because the best shooters shot below 40%. We had takes like Chauncey Billups was less efficient than Ben Wallace
@rodneyreem@Tapped_Innnn@homahoops There used to be a satirical account that posted real injury timelines with fake reasons. They haven’t removed a lot of the old accounts referenced in 2k for over a decade so I think of it like a running appendix of modern historical NBA media which is kinda cool
@enterthefacade@velodus Yea he was a trailblazer - not sure if you are tryna be sarcastic here but his announcement is generally thought of as a turning point in the public perception of those with HIV. It led to more research and overall testing to the point where it isn’t a death sentence anymore
@enterthefacade@velodus I mean NBA players did. Many have said openly back then that they would refuse to play on a team with a known gay teammate. Some even said they would beat/disown their sons for coming out as gay. Clearly the idea of “if you can ball” didn’t matter to a good portion of the league
