Irish Catholic monks literally invented the "space bar."

Reading used to be a nightmare until Irish monks made it legible.

In antiquity (Romans/Greeks), texts were written in Scriptio Continua, continuous strings of letters with no spaces (LIKETHIS).

It was Irish Monks in the 7th and 8th centuries who, out of reverence for the Scriptures, began inserting spaces between words to make the Gospel easier to read and meditate upon.

They literally invented the "space bar."
