@stevencheng I had a similar idea to yours ~30 years ago as a teen but I wanted to use it against wasps-my mortal enemy! When I later found the ted vid I was impressed at how moving to wingbeat detection had simplified things so much. I never did hear any more about this project though.
@mindyisser It's a 'I've heard that word but never paid any attention to how it's spelt' thing. I'd be surprised if you got better than 50/50 odds on picking a random adult and asking.
@eoinmauricedaly Two parts to this one imo. Firstly; the country should not be all apartments and housing estates - that's depressing AF. Secondly; this is not being promoted in place of also building apartments and housing estates.
@Jordan_W_Taylor We paid around 6k for 8 panels and an inverter, no battery. Our usage isn't huge so it covers pretty much all our daytime use. Most recent 2 month bill was €50, and the unused solar gets fed into the grid. The later payout for that should cover the summer bills.
@simpsonryan32@PhilWhittlesee@Konoin_Citizen@MGecko117 The cells are frequently just stacks of 18650's or similar. Yes there's a need for electrical safety knowledge but the biggest part of the challenge is opening up the unit containing them without damaging anything.
@Konoin_Citizen@PhilWhittlesee@MGecko117 The battery lifespan - even if it reduces in endurance - will do you for many years. During that time, finding either individual batteries from other sources to rebuild the packs (from any other EV for example), or just whole packs from same-model abandoned EVs - very doable
@PeterGe31331247@Baggieglenn@nextofficial Next PLC employs ~50,000 ppl. With profits of 1.25 billion; they could have paid each member of staff another 5k and 'only' made 1 billion profit.
So the idea that they 'can't afford it' is nonsense. They just wanted more profit more than they wanted to pay staff properly.
@lmharpin@DPJHodges A quick google suggests there's about 300k Jewish people in the Uk. The idea that they are replacing anyone, is absurd. Don't see anyone making the argument that the half million Chinese people in the Uk are replacing anyone.
