I have got to disagree...”black issue” (which is almost always a PERSON issue) arises...who you going to turn to??? — the black face in the room. #morethansurvive
@Okaikor I've learnt in my special ed classes that People of color are stereotyped and put into special education services more frequently than caucasian individuals. I do not believe my teacher education program reinforced any negative stereotypes, however. #morethansurvive
@Okaikor ALast: I truly believe that anyone going into the education field should have the opportunity to read this book. This book highlights the prejudice against people of color and the minuscule ways that promote racism in education. It is important as educators to be aware
@teachinghamlin the issue is in the fact that not all white people (all future teachers in general) have to go through the extensive training we do...they don’t have to acknowledge their racist beliefs & they are going to teach our students of color. 🤦🏾♀️ #morethansurvive
A5: we just talked about this in class, typicallly I am the sole PoC in my classes which somehow means I am the “voice of the blacks” so if I act in a particular manor...say a particular thing...I’m not just speaking for myself. I’m speaking for a community?¿
Q5: In chapter 6, Dr. Love talks about the teacher education gap, or how teacher preparation reinforces negative stereotypes about people of color.
What connections can you make with your own experiences as a teacher education student? #MoreThanSurvive
@thisiszhane The issue is the structure enforced in the classroom. The preparation is flawed which is why there is negative stereotypes. The boundaries are not there which makes people susceptible to feeling like us people of color are experts at anything black related. #morethansurvive

@thisiszhane@Okaikor I agree with you Zhane’, co-conspirators are doing more that just stating that this is happening. They using their privilege to help marginalized groups get ahead in society.
@Okaikor They are apart of the project...they see the injustice and organizations that are working against it and join the fight...they organize...they donate time and efforts...etc. #morethansurvive
A4: Allies seem to be bystanders, they see the change that others are trying to make but do not actively participate in it...co-conspirators are diving in, lending their experience and knowledge to the advancement of the cause.

Q3: In chapter 5, what distinctions does Dr. Love make between allies and co-conspirators? What examples do you have from your own experiences that demonstrate this distinction? #MoreThanSurvive
I'm slowing down, yall! The #NewarkTeacherProject homies need me to take it slower--please take a minute to respond to someone else's response #MoreThanSurvive
I haven’t spent a great deal of time in the classroom YET! but from observation I have seen sparks abolitionist teaching, where there was a pull for communication amongst teachers and the community.
@teachinghamlin@Okaikor Same! & instead of putting in an effort to rephrase what I said in a way that others might understand, the teacher just like brushed it off almost. #MoreThanSurvive
