I join those calling for a ceasefire in Gaza: killing civilians and bombing hospitals won’t lead to real peace, which is the only true guarantee of safety and security for all Israelis and all Palestinians.
It will bring more war, more destruction, more fear to both, and beyond.
Thankfully, some humanitarian relief is finally getting into Gaza.
But it is a drop of aid in an ocean of need.
The people of Gaza need continuous aid delivery at a level that corresponds to the enormous needs. It must be delivered without restrictions.
I am in Chad with 8 of UNHCR’s top donors. 🇹🇩 now generously hosts 1 million refugees from 4 different countries -almost half fled fighting in Sudan since April. Our teams are working flat out to provide protection + assistance.
More international support is urgently needed
🔴 [1/2] Breaking: At 09:56 this morning, the last of the 58 survivors on board Humanity 1 was able to safely disembark in the port of #Taranto. The first to disembark from our rescue ship were unaccompanied minors, followed by families and adults.
So much suffering in the world today - 114 million people have now been forced to flee.
The #s are breaking news, but it’s the 🌍 where conflict is all too common which is broken.
We can’t give up. 🛑 the wars & persecution. We need peace.

A big thank you to @pmpohjanheimo and @IccFinland for an inspiring meeting on how UNHCR @Refugees and Finnish private sector can come together for #Refugees. The role of the private sector is key in helping us empower and support refugees globally.
Thrilled to hear @selinarobinson's cancer has disappeared. Humbled by the shout out and excited to do the @TourdeCureBC again next year (but definitely not doing the 160K route again!)
Armenia is now hosting more than 100,000 refugees who arrived in less than a week in September.
They need urgent support, especially as winter approaches.

Christophe Chauliac, MSF project coordinator, Adré, #Chad, provides an update on the water situation for refugees from #Sudan:
“In the refugee camps at Adré, some 200,000 people are receiving just 5 to 6 litres of water daily, well below the recommended 20 litres per day.”
🔴Breaking: After a three-day crossing, all 88 rescued people on board #Humanity1 were able to disembark in #Bari, #Italy, at noon today – first people with medical conditions, then women & children, and finally the remaining men. We wish them all the best for their future! 1/3
It’s impossible to be at the Rafah crossing & not feel heartbroken.
Behind these walls there are 2 million people in Gaza with no water, food, medicine, fuel.
On this side, these trucks have what they need.
We need to make them move—as soon as possible, as many as necessary.
A good place to call home is out of reach for too many in BC. But we're making real progress. Joanne just moved into a place where her rent is based on income. We're committed to getting homes built faster so people can have a decent home they can afford. https://t.co/1JuNeokWAy
@KahlonRav This isn't going to fix anything, the AirB&B rentals will go on the market for renting, at a rate that the people that need housing can't afford. Co Ops need to be built, below market rentals needs to be built, the Province needs to step up and build these.
Global attention for the Sudan crisis is waning.
We cannot let this become another forgotten emergency.
Spread the word. Help with a donation if you can: https://t.co/oLu39KacMi
The tragic loss of so many lives in Israel and Gaza, including those of @UNRWA staff, is devastating. @UN colleagues are taking huge risks to deliver much needed assistance.
All civilians and aid workers must be protected, in full respect of international humanitarian law.
On #WorldFoodDay we think of the families who go to bed hungry.
In #Afghanistan, #Somalia, #Syria and around the world, millions of people no longer receive @WFP food assistance because of funding shortfalls.
Hunger in 2023 is unacceptable. We need the world to step up.
[1/3] 🔴Breaking: Third rescue within 18 hours! 28 people, amongst them women and babies, were rescued from an unseaworthy, overcrowded fiberglass boat. When #Humanity1 arrived, the boat was listing and risked capsizing in growing winds and waves over 2 metres high.
