Short linear motifs of USP10 and Caprin-1 compete for G3BP to regulate stress granules, microscopically visible foci in eukaryotic cells. Here we suggest that the SLiM interaction of Caprin-1 but not USP10 is sensitive to more acidic pH in condensates.
