We made it to the front page of HN yesterday, and (breaking with HN tradition) the comment section was really uplifting!

To address recent concerns about conda package licensing, we have written a blog post to explain our perspective.
There is no need to worry! Feel free to ask for help!

This concerns _only_ the defaults channel and not @condaforge! For conda-forge, we are working hard to remove any vendor lock-in: we have a mirror of all packages @prefix_dev and on @github GHCR (where Homebrew is hosted as well).
📣 PSA: the latest major setuptools release removed `setuptools.command.test` and it unfortunately breaks many sdists (https://t.co/VaUmBwKG47). Would upper bounds have helped? Pixi automatically adds bounded requirements 🚀 #python#packaging#setuptools
I've been working on a little side project - "pixi-pdf"! It allows you to embed your entire pixi project into a regular, readable PDF file. Imagine uploading an _executable_ PDF to @arxiv - would that be exciting for scientists? cc @SciPyConf 👩🔬🧪
SimpleRecon in Rerun 0.16!
SimpleRecon is a back-to-basics approach for 3D scene reconstruction from posed monocular images by @NianticLabs . It offers state-of-the-art depth accuracy and competitive 3D scene reconstruction, which makes it perfect for resource-constrained environments.
All the visualizations were created by editing the original source code to log data with the Rerun SDK. We just updated the example to our latest 0.16 release.
The upcoming version of pixi will support configuration from pyproject.toml 🎉
📦 Better integration with Python projects! 🚀

We've just released pixi 0.7.0 with some banger features:
- Channel specific dependencies
- Strict channel priority
- Auto-completion on pixi run
Just rerun the install command from the https://t.co/5Wqw2cJBcT website to get the latest and greatest 📦🚀
With recent changes, rattler can now solve
@conda packages up to 5x faster! Amazing work by @baszalmstra and @tldejager. Check out the PR at https://t.co/HdNNsiDvDe
Python bindings coming soon cc @condaforge
@prefix_dev@pypi@HEPfeickert we are not leveraging those yet but we definitely could. I assume you are referring tot PEP658. However, loads of packages do not have this yet.
If you're wondering why we are a bit quiet - it's because we're heads down coding and refactoring. We're making our package resolver (in Rust) totally generic so that it can handle other ecosystems as well.
Starting with @pypi ... code and pixi integration coming soon!
The open source @vegafusion_io project has adopted pixi! This is a nice example of project that uses @rustlang, Python, Wasm/Javascript, and Java. With pixi, a single command sets everything up – much easier for contributors.

@wuoulf Can I also say how adorable the pixi mascot is? I He's like a magical fairy robot cheese cube with a big of nerd and a bit of space magic swank. Yep, I love him. ❤️
Trying out @prefix_dev new package manager #pixi that installs from conda-forge - one of my favorites! Of course folks gripe about the slowness of conda/mamba. But installing @FluxFramework with pixi? 46 seconds, no errors. BRB might be in love. 😍
Will try more and report back!
Exciting news! We started to port libsolv (the package resolver we use for @condaproject) to @rustlang. It already works (we are fixing some minor performance issues right now).
