🚨 URGENT: Tanzania is in Crisis 🇹🇿
Day 4 since the October 29 blackout - the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has completely shut down the internet, silencing millions and hiding atrocities.
Authorities briefly switched it back on to falsely announce a president - even as the world witnessed burned polling stations, chaos, and citizens flooding the streets in protest. How were votes counted in an election that never truly happened? Go figure.
During this blackout, state-linked forces and rogue police have shot and killed innocent civilians in several regions. 💔
Hospitals are overwhelmed with the injured and are reportedly refusing to accept more bodies due to lack of space. Citizens are suffering without internet, electricity, food, medical care, and basic necessities.
These actions violate Tanzania’s Constitution and international human rights law. The people’s rights to life, information, and peaceful assembly are being destroyed in plain sight.
We call upon the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) to uphold their duty - protect the people, not harm them - and safeguard the nation’s integrity in this critical moment.
Despite all attempts to silence them - including the taking of lives - Tanzanians continue to demonstrate peacefully and demand justice:
– An end to killings and abductions
– Accountability for those responsible
– Recognition that Tanzanians have rejected this election
– Reforms within the Police and National Security Services (TISS)
– Restoration of fundamental freedoms and access to communication
We have reached out to @elonmusk to activate @Starlink in Tanzania and restore internet access so the world can see the truth. This blackout is hiding a humanitarian crisis & prevent communication.
We are also appealing to organizations for urgent humanitarian assistance - food, water, and medical supplies for civilians in need. @tlgefoundation have made calls around seeking help for the people.
We urge the global community - @UN@UNHumanRights@RedCross@ICRC@amnesty@hrw@WHO@StateDept@SenateForeign@USAmbTanzania@Europarl_EN@EUCouncil @EUEuropeanCommission @UNHCR@ICRC@AfricanUnion @AfricanUnionPeace @EAC_Secretariat @ACHPR - to act now.
- to act now.
