"Classroom management isn't about reacting to problems. It's about building routines and organization so that learning flows without interruption."
Watch Principal Carl Blythe & teachers share their classroom routines that make that possible.

I am a huge proponent of teaching words in pairs. You not only learn what a word is, you also learn what it is not. You also make students differentiate between the two with an added spelling component right away. At the end, Ss write which word on their MWB's.

I’m convinced that lesson delivery is the missing piece for many. I’ve seen targeted lessons based on student need, solid materials, smart groupings…and kids still aren’t making average + progress. Why not? They usually are missing these pieces.
My life's work has been figuring out the most effective way to support teachers through professional learning. After 25 years of research, this article is the summary of what I am thinking right now. It's one of the most important articles I've written.

@KateMessner Post 2 We read your book and decorated the hallway with parts of your book. We included some of the animals and provided clues. Lift the flap to see which animal!
@KateMessner Post 3 Kids learned about animal tracks in science. They also learned about snowflakes and then made snowflakes used to decorate the hallway. It has a been a hit! They are asking to keep it up all year, but we have big plans...Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt.
How much phonemic awareness instruction should K-1 students receive? Erbeli et al. (2024) shed light on this question. Read our previous research article of the month to learn more: https://t.co/PLT1LRPbND
Bookworms should get all “greens”
Other programs EdReports has marked as all green do nothing but theoretically check off phonics boxes. Districts then adopt them thinking they are buying quality programs only to find they’ve been tricked into spending millions on faulty curr.
Handwriting skills serve as the foundation of broader writing skill development. Only once students learn to generate individual letters accurately and fluently are they able to develop spelling and more complex writing skills. One common way to present the development of writing skills across time is the Simple View of Writing. Learn more with our free eLearning module: https://t.co/SGo09PGOLj

How flashy should your lessons be? New study on 'seductive details' which are defined as "interesting but irrelevant" aspects of a lesson. Key takeaways:
▶️ “When cognitive resources are already stretched thin, seductive details can pull learners’ attention away from essential content.”
▶️“Students with higher prior knowledge are less likely to be negatively affected by seductive details, as they can separate relevant from irrelevant information more easily.”
▶️HOWEVER..“In contexts where learners lack external incentives, seductive details can help spark curiosity and make learning more enjoyable.” Hmm.. 📷
