The Future of UK SHORE: Shaping the Future of Maritime event was well worth the travel from Polruan to London.

As part of the event, @marine_zero's Operations Director, Andy Hurley, attended the CMDC 6 National Briefing. It launched the latest @transportgovuk Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition, which will award funding to projects which can achieve reduced greenhouse gas emissions from shipping.

The briefing was organised by @transportgovuk and @innovateuk with Maritime Lead James Lovett introducing the new CMDC bid. There were some excellent takeaways: as well as the insights-rich content and data, it was great to see such a high level of engagement from UK SMEs, both in the challenges and the opportunities presented by maritime decarbonisation.

We are proud to be recognised by our peers for our industry leading approach to the clean maritime energy transition. Our latest project, Electric Thames, is being funded by @ofgem's Strategic Innovation Fund, in partnership with @innovateuk . It is focused on converting the River Thames into a zero-emission transport corridor, supported by the electrification of ports, vessels, and supporting infrastructure.

📢 Some more exciting project news to share with you today!

Along with our project partners at @UKPowerNetworks and @LCP_Delta, Marine Zero is developing a completely new approach to increasing London's flexible energy capacity by developing new income streams for vessel and quay operators.

Using a principle similar to night storage heaters, battery-powered vessels on the Thames could store green energy when it is cheap to do so, such as when the wind is blowing or sun is shining, and feed it back to the grid during peak electricity hours. The approach could help increase the capital’s flexible energy capacity and reduce peak electricity demand.

The project supports the @LondonPortAuth's transition to net zero emissions and @MayorofLondon Sadiq Khan’s pathway for London to be Net Zero Carbon by 2030.
