Last week I picked up @cs50 again! It’s such a great program!

I started it some years ago but didn’t complete it, which was a shame. But it’s never too late to do the right thing, so now I’m back!

For someone like me who got into tech from a coding bootcamp some years ago, courses like this are immensely valuable.

After 7 years working in tech, I was already familiar with many concepts but still had gaps in others. @davidjmalan’s teaching is top-notch for cementing all of them. I simply love his live examples, like moving people around the stage to illustrate sorting algorithms.

I started last week and am now moving to week 4 of 10. This time I will finish it.

Some may say: AI this, AI that. But there won’t be anyone more valuable than a dev with deep understanding of the domain they work in, the tools they use, and the fundamentals of it all.

I used Claude as well for my local llm setup.

I wouldn’t say it would substitute Claude or that it’s directly comparable to Opus in terms of performance. But there are some tasks you can perform at near zero cost by running models locally and only using frontier models to validate the work.

There are some other benefits as well, but most people don’t mind them.
