The gatekeepers strike back!

Nothing terrifies a prestige hierarchy more than the technology that makes its prestige obsolete.

Let me translate the panic:

“We won our Fields Medals and built our status in a world without AI. Now AI companies might solve problems that took us decades or problems we could never solve at all. Some of those breakthroughs might greatly benefit humanity, but what about our jobs, status, and prestige?”

That is the mentality: protecting the hierarchy matters more than accelerating discovery.

If AI can solve mathematics that humans cannot, that should be one of the greatest scientific achievements in history.

The goal of mathematics should be to solve problems and expand human knowledge, not to preserve the prestige of the people who happened to solve them first or the social status of mathematicians.

The purpose of science is also not to preserve the scarcity of scientists.

Knowledge is not a private guild.

For thousands of years, intelligence itself has been scarce. AI is beginning to destroy that scarcity.

The printing press reduced the power of those who controlled books.

The internet reduced the power of those who controlled information.

AI will reduce the power of those who control expertise itself.

And some gatekeepers are discovering that what they thought was their permanent status may have simply been the economic value of scarce intelligence.

That is why this moment is so disruptive.

AI is coming for the gates!

And that could be one of the greatest things ever to happen to humanity!
