Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me 20 times, shame on me again. I will never use @DupliColor products again. Absolute garbage!!
General Howe used a Quaker woman's parlor to plan his ambush on Washington. He never guessed she was a spy.
In 1777, the British held Philadelphia. Howe set up headquarters directly across the street from Lydia Darragh's house. His officers used her parlor for their private meetings.
One December night, they ordered her family to bed and met in her house to plan a surprise attack on Washington's army at Whitemarsh, sixteen miles north.
Lydia listened at the door.
The next morning she talked her way through British lines with a pass to buy flour, walked miles in the cold and slipped the warning to an American officer at a tavern. She had hidden it in the pocket of an old needle book. A sewing kit. Nothing a soldier would think to search.
When Howe marched out to spring his ambush, he found Washington's men awake, armed and waiting. After a few days of skirmishing, he gave up and returned to Philadelphia.
The British questioned Lydia in the aftermath. She told them her whole family had been asleep and they believed her.
Little did they know, her own son was serving in Washington's army at Whitemarsh, the very place Howe marched out to attack.
@HistoryWJacob I think they’d be more sad that infuriated. Some things would for sure upset them, but they would probably be more disappointed that they suffered so much for us and we take it for granted and forget where our freedoms come from.
