Last month, the Tribune and Alden terminated the only Arab American and only Palestinian American in the Design and Production Studio for “misconduct” because the employee added the Palestinian death toll to an article related to the ongoing crisis in Gaza

We later learned that the toll had in fact been in the article at first but hastily removed before it got to DPS. The information was correct and relevant to the story, and this guild member is a model employee. This reeks of discrimination at worst and poor management at best.
Add 2 more to the list of 1000s of cuts that are hurting local news in Chicagoland.
Monday, @GuildSuburban unit chair and longtime @tribpub entertainment editor Wendy Fox Weber was and @ThePioneerPress editorial asst. Nancy Swanson were told their jobs were being cut
Journalists at the @SunSentinel are forming a union to protect our workers and the South Florida community’s access to quality local journalism. #SunSentinelSolidarity
@Mabuckley88@royalpratt@DarcelTribune@StacyStClair@tvjedi Kurt Ludke of DPS has gone five years without a raise and drives for Uber to make up the difference. His rent is up 20% since 2019. His pay is up 0%.
What Alden is offering is BS. Alden can clearly afford to keep our 401k match and give us raises.

Here’s how you can show your solidarity:
DO NOT click on stories at https://t.co/m1zKvUd4Bt
DO NOT engage with Trib social media accounts
DO NOT open and engage with Chicago Tribune emails and news alerts Thursday.
Respect our picket line by not crossing the “click it” line!
Chicago Tribune journalists are going on strike for 24 hours tomorrow for the first time in history.
@CTGuild has bargained for a fair contract since 2018.
Alden responded by offering functional pay cuts & fewer benefits despite the Trib's profits. We're done playing games.
"I want the Tribune to continue to be after I am gone as it has been under my directions: an advocate of political and moral progress, and in all things to follow the line of common sense." — Joseph Medill
Are you listening, Alden? @chicagotribune@CTGuild
Alden wants to take our 401K match and doesn’t offer any raises.
Tribune journalists are standing up. We are already the lowest paid journalists despite the work we do. Despite how the world is changing.
Please support our union.
@phillipstribune We want raises not because we feel entitled but because we do the work… we need a fair contract now. -@LAURA_N_ROD speaks passionately about pay disparities at the Tribune and why she and other women and workers of color deserve better.
