I see that she has a little scratching pad. That's what she needs but something vertical. Cats scratch to mark their territory -- how high they can scratch shows other cats how big they are to other cats.

@OneNerdyOpinion I think you can let them out together. The kitten might be tiny but Spike knows she's a baby. Your dog will not hurt her.

That little girl will be ruling the house soon. Dogs are generally wary of cats. Under that fur cats are nothing but muscle and claws and dogs know it.
