@OOrsak @mbcornfarmer But, to your original question - what %? I think that would largely be dictated by the stage of the farm. Growth stage? How leveraged is the farm? Owner’s appetite for risk?Saving 50% of the gravy as a buffer may do wonders for a young farmer’s stress level who is in growth stage

@OOrsak @mbcornfarmer It’s a good time to look at the wish list. Every farm’s is different, but I’d rather see someone spend the ‘extra’ on something they’ve been working towards for years (heated shop comes to mind), than an impulse buy of shiny iron, because of the huge depreciation write off

@rgstone1 @skellerfarms Used to sell inputs, so some experience on that. Chemistry - lots of competition & thin margins. No real volume discount. Fert - little different story. There you can get some volume incentive. Like you mentioned tho, timing of purchase is bigger variable

@ValueStockGeek Very interesting, and an excellent Sunday morning read. Curious if results would be much different if rebalanced semi annually? (Although, tax reasons may negate any benefit). Maybe historically there isn’t enough volatility in a one year period to make it worth while.
