@usppdd I believe upgrading existing LiDARs to REV8 enables the collection of native color data, making waymo one of the first companies able to train with colorized LiDAR data. The question is how much that additional data is actually worth. Probably cost gap too much for a change

@DollarCostAvg The reason of spending more money to Lidar instead of camera is reliability. Ouster’s Ceo Angus Pacala always told that minimizing risk is essential for them and their customers. For instance they added extra 1 chip to their lidar to make sure the other chip is doing well.
