Next in who after the Ramanujan Series? He is the reason we can find a needle in the digital haystack of the world. Meet Dr. Rajeev Motwani (1962-2009), the Ghost who built the logic of the modern world. A boy from Jammu who went to IIT Kanpur & ended up teaching 2 kids at Stanford how to organize the internet. W/o him, there is no Google. W/o him, the web would be a chaotic library with no index.
He was the master of Randomized Algorithms, the man who proved that sometimes, a bit of chance is the fastest way to the truth. He won the Nobel of his field & mentored the titans of Silicon Valley, yet he remains an invisible legend in his homeland. He is the architect of the digital oracle, the man who taught the world how to search.
Born in 1962 in Jammu, Rajeev grew up in a household defined by the discipline of the Indian Army. As a child, he famously wanted to be a librarian because he loved books so much. He eventually realized that mathematics was the ultimate indexing system for the universe. He belonged to the legendary Class of 1983 at IIT Kanpur. This was a Silo of intense competition that refined his ability to solve problems with extreme speed & elegance.
He moved to the US & earned his PhD from UC Berkeley in 1988, diving into the deep waters of theoretical computer science. Before Motwani, most computer scientists tried to find perfect answers. Motwani realized that for massive amounts of data, perfection is too slow. He proved that by introducing a small, controlled amount of randomness into an algorithm, we could solve complex problems millions of times faster than traditional methods.
In 1995, he co-authored Randomized Algorithms. It is not just a textbook; it is the fundamental blueprint for modern computing. Every time a large system (like a global bank/a social network) processes data, it likely uses a Motwani-style randomized check.
In the mid-90s, at Stanford University, Motwani encountered 2 students: Larry Page & Sergey Brin. They had a rough idea for a search engine. Motwani provided the mathematical rigor. He helped them formulate PageRank, the algorithm that ranks web pages by their importance based on link structure.
He was not just a mentor; he was an early advisor & investor. He was the Ghost in the room when Google was born in a garage. Beyond Google, he was a foundational advisor to PayPal, Airbnb, & Twitter. He saw the Pattern of Success in startups before they even had a name.
In 2001, he won the highest honor in theoretical computer science (The Gödel Prize) for his work on the PCP Theorem (a massive breakthrough in how we verify proofs).
In 2009, at the age of 47, he passed away in a tragic accident at his home in California. Silicon Valley went into a state of deep mourning. Sergey Brin wrote a heartbreaking tribute titled "Rajeev Motwani, my friend & teacher." Yet, in India, his name did not make the front pages. He remains a Ghost in the country that produced him.
He is the Ghost of the Algorithm. Like Ramanujan, he saw the beauty in the approximated truth. He realized that the world is too big to be solved by simple, rigid lines, so he taught machines how to use probability to find the truth.

🚨 NEW UPI SCAM: The "Rogue Auto QR Code" Device Takeover 🚨
A highly sophisticated UPI scam is targeting commuters using Android phones. Within minutes, victims are seeing their bank accounts linked to remote devices without their consent.
Here is exactly how this technical exploit works and how to protect yourself:
💻 The Mechanics: How It Happens
1. The Hijacked QR: The fraudster displays a custom QR code. It does not open a secure payment page. Instead, it triggers an Android deep-link "Intent" payload.
2. The Forced Verification SMS: The malicious code forces the victim's phone to draft and send a hidden, encrypted UPI registration token (like the cryptic HDFCUPI... text seen at the bottom of the screenshot).
3. The Remote Device Bind: The scammers enter the victim's phone number into multiple banking apps on *their own burner devices*. When the victim's phone broadcasts that encrypted SMS token, NPCI systems mistakenly validate the *scammer's* phone as the legitimate primary device.
4. The Multi-Bank Explosion: Once the phone number is bound to the scammer's handset, automated scripts fetch every bank account linked to that number (HDFC, Axis, ICICI, etc.) in a matter of minutes.
🛡️ 100% Sure-Fire Kill Switches
If you or someone you know receives a sudden flood of UPI activation messages:
* Dial *99# Immediately: From the affected SIM, dial this universal USSD code. Select the option to Block UPI or Disable UPI Profile. This works instantly across all banks without needing internet.
* Call 1930: Reach out to the National Cyber Crime Helpline immediately to report active device-binding fraud and freeze downstream channels.
* Check SMS Forwarding: Dial *#21# to ensure the hacker hasn't secretly set up call or SMS forwarding. If they have, dial ##002# to wipe it out.
* De-register Your Apps: If you still have access to your Google Pay, PhonePe, or BHIM apps, go to settings and select De-register UPI Profile. This forces a termination of all external sessions.
💡 Golden Rule of Prevention
NEVER scan a street vendor or driver's QR code using your phone's default camera app or generic QR scanners. Always open a trusted, official app like Google Pay, PhonePe, BHIM, or your official banking app to scan. Safe payment interfaces will strictly block malicious device-binding intents.
Stay vigilant and share this to protect others! 🧵👇

🚨BREAKING:
Legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle has passed away at the age of 92.
The queen of playback singing, who recorded over 12,000 songs in more than 20 languages across eight decades, breathed her last today in Mumbai.
She was hospitalized at Breach Candy Hospital yesterday evening for exhaustion and a chest infection, and passed due to multiple organ failure.
From the sensuous “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja” to the fiery “Dum Maaro Dum” to soul stirring ghazals, her voice defined generations of Indian cinema like no one else.
Asha Tai’s unmatched versatility and timeless magic shaped Bollywood’s golden era and beyond.
The world just lost one of its greatest voices.
Rest in eternal peace, legend.
Her name was Asha Bhosle.
She was born in a small village in Sangli in 1933.
Her father died when she was 9. The family had no money. She started singing at 10 to feed her siblings.
At 16 she eloped against her family’s wishes. Her sister Lata stopped speaking to her. Her family disowned her. The marriage was abusive. It ended in 1960.
She came back with two children and pregnant with a third.
No money. No support. Three children to feed.
She went back to singing.
Nobody wanted her. In the 1950s she got only the songs Lata, Geeta Dutt and Shamshad Begum rejected. Songs for vamps. Cabaret numbers. C grade films.
She sang every single one. Because her children needed to eat.
Then came O.P. Nayyar. Then R.D. Burman. Then the world changed.
Dum Maro Dum. Piya Tu Ab To Aaja. Chura Liya Hai Tumne. She did not just sing these songs. She became them.
In 1995 at age 62 she sang Rangeela Re and silenced an entire generation that had written her off.
In 2011 the Guinness Book of World Records confirmed what India already knew. Most recorded artist in music history. 12,000 songs. 20 languages. 8 decades.
She passed away today at 92 in Mumbai.
The girl who sang vamp songs because nobody else would take her became the voice of a generation.
There will never be another Asha Bhosle.
Rest in peace Asha tai.
Happy new year everyone

'Good deal hunting' - an all new @metamayur scanner.
Named it to rhyme with 'Goodwill Hunting' :)
When fishermen cannot go to sea, they repair nets. When the sea is too rough to sail, the smart ones don't wait- they wait for the moment the storm breaks. Because even in stillness, they progress.
Much in line with this incredible thought, i am glad and excited to announce that i have built and back-tested yet another powerful scanner applying my firsthand insights, experience, and codes, to fetch 'good deals' in a rough market. The idea is again to align with more peaceful investing coupled by the power of compounding. The results are fascinating. 26 out of total 31 stocks have delivered fantastic results.
